I legit had a friend, where that actually happened. He was sleeping in his truck when some kids got ahold of some tools they weren't sposed to and one of them shot his gas tank with a tracer round
His left leg got burned pretty bad but, aside from scarring he didn't lose any mobility of it. Kids who did it were turned in by their mother when she found out.
