Aandreas has no idea why, but he grows larger when he is angry, attempting to be threatening, or fighting. He does maintain some control over this ability as he can calm himself down to shrink back down to his base 20'. He can also stoke his anger, bulk himself up in an attempt to be intimidating, or most effectively drinking deeply from his desire to protect those he cares about.
While he rarely ever reaches it, he has been able to reach around 100,000 miles tall at the shoulders to take on particularly large foes. This takes time to come back down from, but usually the rise to such sizes is quite quick.
He and Vasily believe that the reason for this growth may be some combination of psychological (considering how pulling from his desire to protect is particularly potent) and physical likely responding to the natural release of adrenaline or other chemicals into his bloodstream when under duress.
[b]Background[b] :
For most of Aandreas' early life, he was a Wanderer in the Tajaawlran desert. An orphan the day he came into the world after being abandoned at the paw of the giant Zenikin Mightyena who had become fond of the Wanderers' way of life and became one himself and now carried an entire camp on his back. While not exactly common for orphans to be left with Wanderer Bands, it was common enough that a tradition had developed that the Bands would accept the orphans into their camps as one of their own, no questions asked.
Aandreas spent 21 years growing up with this Band and came to regard the Zenikin Mightyena as a father figure in time. Learning many life lessons from him and developing a deep down belief in the importance of being able to protect those he cared about just like his father figure did so by literally carrying those he thought of as his family on his back. As a result of that belief and desire, Aandreas pushed himself from an early age to get stronger and to learn how to fight. He fairly quickly gained a reputation for moving fast and getting into lots of friendly brawls with other members of the Band. And then later whenever the Band visited an oasis village or came across other Bands he was often among the first to show up representing his Band and very ready to start a brawl if need be. Also if there wasn't a need and just in case anyone wanted to brawl and swap styles. For the most part, his Band was fond of him. There were of course a-few that were annoyed by his constant brawling, but a rumble from the "ground" below them usually halted their grumbles.
One odd thing that slowly grew to be more apparent over the years, though, was that after a fight or if he ever got into a heated argument or was attempting to be threatening, Aandreas would seem to be slightly larger afterwards before shrinking back down after he calmed down. It was subtle at first, but as he approached the age of the Wandering, it grew decidedly more obvious to the point that Aandreas was noticing it too. Unsure of why it happened, he went to his father figure who was himself massive to ask advice. He of course did not know why either, but he took the opportunity to begin teaching Aandreas the importance of using massive size to his advantage. Whether that advantage is in combat to get the upper hand or more defensive as a warning and intimidation tactic. Neither knew how large Aandreas could get, but the old Zenikin Mightyena wanted to make sure Aandreas knew how to use whatever size he did manage to achieve.
Eventually, though, it came time for Aandreas to go off on his own Wandering. Bidding farewell to the Band and only family he had ever known, he set off to see more of the world beyond just the Tajaawlran Desert and the Great Red Dust Desert of Zerzura across the Malphis border. He wandered his way into Central Malphis for a time, travelled further into Constel, and eventually made his way back towards Tajaawlra to wander his way through the steppes of northern areas.
All along the way, Aandreas continued to train himself and got into brawls wherever he could. Unfortunately, as he moved farther from the Tajaawlran Desert, he came across fewer who wanted to participate in a friendly brawl and began to have a tendency to get into trouble. He was usually able to fend for himself or get out of town fast when he needed to, but the worst trouble he got into which then hounded him for a year before nearly being his end was when he found himself getting on the wrong side of some remnants of Constel's old Raging Klang Gang.
He saw some of their gang members trying to extort "protection" money from a small town barely the size of one of the gang members, a burly and floofy Zoroark, and Aandreas took great offense to that. That wasn't protection as he had grown up knowing it to be and so he stalked his way towards these thugs. His righteous anger fueling that odd ability of his to grow larger until he stood just as large as the largest of the thugs. His intimidating appearance and the fact that he had just gone from a mere 20' to now glaring at them eye to eye with a simmering anger deep in his eyes had the desired effect and the thugs quickly ran off. A humiliating display that they would not soon forget.
After shrinking back down and being thanked by the residents of the village, Aandreas continued along his way. But as his Wandering took him further from Constel and back towards Tajaawlra, this small group from the gang followed him. Waiting for their chance to get their revenge for the humiliation of being chased off without even a fight.
It wasn't until he made it back to the Tajaawlran steppes that the gang chose to get their revenge. Aandreas was in the middle of nowhere on a road between major cities when a shadow fell over him. A shadow that it turned out was that same burly and floofy Zoroark from a year ago standing nearly 250'. He had used his illusions to hide him and his fellows until Aandreas was completely on his own and far from anywhere he could run and hide. And since they had gotten the drop on him and caught him by complete surprise, he didn't have time to do that scary growing anger trick.
The gang moved quickly to attack with the Zoroark leading the charge. Delivering punches and stomps that Aandreas was only just barely to avoid. Feats of dodging made only more difficult as the Zoroark's fellows joined the fray. It was only a matter of time until Aandreas would be struck by something and that time indeed did come. Backed into a corner between three of the Zoroark's fellow thugs, he could not dodge the stomp that finally landed on him.
Despite all his training over the years, Aandreas was out of his depth fighting so many opponents at once all focused on him alone and with one of them so very much larger than him. And now worse still he was injured and unable to dodge with anywhere near his usual speed. As the Zoroark's fellows now took the opportunity to move in and start pummeling Aandreas in his weakened state and get their own revenge in, though, another shadow fell over Aandreas and the gang members... Including the massive looming Zoroark.
Looming so large that the burly and floofy Zoroark gangster was tiny in comparison, a 1 mile tall Zoroark wearing a curiously fancy vest and short sleeved button down shirt and even pleated pants manifested above the brawl and glared downwards. If the gangsters had been scared of Aandreas glare when he was just as big, this utterly terrified them and they quickly bolted.
Continuing to glare, this towering Zoroark pulled out a phone that made even Aandreas' father figure look small and put in a call to the authorities in the nearest city of gangsters in the air needing to be brought in. Finished with that, he then crouched down to carefully lift the tiny Aandreas into his hand. The Absol/Mightyena was in a bad state, but he still pushed himself up to stare up at his savior, offered a thanks, and then collapsed into that protective hand. The Zoroark also noticed with a raised eyebrow of interest as Aandreas shrank down to a mere 20' after collapsing...
When Aandreas woke up, he found he was in the fanciest hospital he had ever seen. This section dedicated to those in his minimacro size range, but in the distance he could see smaller beds and then further still in the distance larger and larger and larger beds for those of ever greater sizes. And not only was this hospital easily capable of providing for many sizes, it was incredibly clean and the medical technology hooked up to Aandreas and surrounding him was beyond pretty much anything he had ever done more than catch glances at in his Wandering.
A ruffling of fur and hair and small quaking to his side and a quiet but still rumbling "Ah you're finally awake." came from to his side and above. Looking in that direction revealed the same fancily dressed mile tall Zoroark who had saved him from those gangsters. Why he was still there, Aandreas wasn't sure, but he did take the opportunity to offer his thanks with a clear head and not strained out through the haze of pain.
The Zoroark waved away Aandreas thanks with a smile and introduced himself simply as Vasily and began asking questions. Where was Aandreas from, where had he traveled, what caused him to get on the wrong side of that gang, what his skills were, about this belief the little Absol/Mightyena had regarding the responsibility to protect others... Finally why he seemed to have been larger when he was in that fight. Aandreas had been growing more cautious as the questions continued, but he continued to answer as this was the man who had saved him.
After answering all these questions, Vasily stared at Aandreas for several moments, clearly in thought. Aandreas, though, couldn't deny that being stared at so intently by someone so much larger than him and not knowing what he was thinking was certainly intimidating. Something he logged in his experience as another potentially useful tactic for the future.
Finally, Vasily seemed to come to a decision as he nodded and then with a wave of his hand around himself and the little bed Aandreas was in a shimmer seemed to surround them for a moment. Nodding again, Vasily returned his gaze to Aandreas and explained that he is a high ranking member of Tajaawlra's intelligence department and, after hearing Aandreas' story, wanted to offer the Absol/Mightyena a position as one of his own personal agents and occasional bodyguard when needed.
Wanting to return the favor Vasily had given him in saving him, Aandreas quickly agreed and began a new stage of his life. For the next decade he faithfully served as a member of the Tajaawlran intelligence network and reported directly to Vasily. His wanderings continuing through this time as a convenient explanation for his mission-related travels. He also frequently found himself performing bodyguard duties for Vasily himself and even important members of the Tajaawlran government. Over this time Aandreas was also gifted by Vasily a special Dark Type dagger that he kept hidden in his neck floof but which he could quickly pull out for a surprise attack that, while it couldn't cause physical damage, it could cause temporary paralysis.
Eventually, Vasily and his wife had a daughter and while Aandreas continued his duties for Vasily and the Tajaawlran intelligence apparatus, he also volunteered to be the newborn Rodinya's personal bodyguard whenever he was not otherwise engaged. Vasily and his wife were somewhat surprised by the offer, but after considering Aandreas' personality and his commitment to keeping those he cared about safe... He agreed as he had a feeling Aandreas would act as a bodyguard whether he agreed or not. From that time on Aandreas became a frequent fixture almost like a butler in Vasily's household and came to be known by Rodinya as "Uncle A".
Years later when Rodinya left for her own Wandering, Aandreas followed at a distance. Far enough to give her her privacy, but close enough he could keep her safe. Something made easier by the fact that she had grown to be much much larger than her parents own towering mile tall heights as she stood at an impressive 1,000 miles at the shoulders. Even when Aandreas was called in for another intelligence gathering or bodyguard task, he always returned to his true charge protecting the daughter of the one who had saved his life and given him a new one.
When Rodinya met Benock's party, Aandreas was cautious and hesitant. They [b]seemed[b] friendly enough, but they were certainly an unusual group. Benock was a surprisingly normal and clearly harmless Lycanroc from a tiny region Aandreas had heard of through the network but never visited. But then his companions...
There was the vast and always growing Delphox/Serperior, Olivaria, who was extremely intelligent and clever and always searching for more ways to grow faster. She seemed to not be a threat, but her sheer size that was ever increasing was something that encourage some caution as he still remembered the thug from so long ago now. Her librarian, a Scullerodent by the name of Seras that lived in the den inside Olivaria's staff also seemed to be largely harmless as she spent the vast majority of her time inside said staff.
Then there was the Alolan Rattata Taur. She was larger than Rodinya too and loved to brawl, something which spoke to Aandreas' own past, but for the most part she seemed to be a friendly sort. If aggressively so.
The Goodra, Gauleen, fell into the same category as Benock as likely being harmless as she was simply interested in sweets and pastries and travelled with the party as their cook.
Mariaan the Nidoqueen/Gardevoir was someone that Aandreas actually recognized to his surprise. He had acted as a bodyguard for her mother on several occasions.
The remaining three, though... Those drew Aandreas' greatest interest and were the ones he watched most closely.
First there was Proteanne the Vaporeon/Wishiwashi. She was a multimanifester of impressive skill and able to change her size and shape at will if given enough water to work with. Both of which would make her quite capable as a spy herself and also in combat. On top of that was a clear and shrewd intelligence and cleverness hidden behind her eyes and a bearing that suggested she was very likely once a naval officer. Likely in the Buisen navy. But there was also something about her that brought to his mind the rumors he had heard through the network of a pirate and privateer going by the name "The Demon of the Sea" and of a former naval captain who had earned the nickname "The Sea Wisp". A name that her ship shared...
Next there was the Helioptile/Ninetales, Helena. One of the larger members of the party and with a bearing that hinted to Aandreas that she likely learned some techniques for sneaking from another member of the Tajaawlran intelligence network. Likely a parent as he knew of no Helioptile/Ninetales in the network. What set him on edge about Helena, though, was her attachment to Rodinya and how she was clearly attempting to woo his charge. There did not appear to be anything untoward or dangerous about Helena, but the fact that she wanted to get closer to Rodinya relationship-wise was enough for Aandreas to watch her closely.
Finally and most curiously, was Anya the Absol/Sneasel. For the most part there didn't seem to be much that was strange about her. She claimed to be a friend of Benock's since around when he left to start wandering Land and in terms of size she was only slightly larger than his own base size. Though she also claimed that cuddling with Benock gave her "cuddle power" that allows her to somehow achieve sizes that would leave vast swathes of Land under a single paw. He had never once heard of "cuddle power" so that alone was odd. Especially combined with the sheer enormity she could achieve seemingly on a whim. Then there was her strange double-scythe horn. This was a trait he'd never seen in any other Absol anywhere which suggested she must be some variant from very VERY far away. There was also her Pokeball which at first glance seemed to be a Repeat Ball, but where a Repeat Ball normally has red this one instead had blue like her fur. In some connection to her having a Repeat Ball, she was also capable of incredibly realistic seeming multimanifestation that she explained as her being able to use Double Team better than most. There were many odd things about this Absol/Sneasel that grabbed Aandreas' attention, but on top of that he could simply sense that there was something 'off' about her that he could not describe. He suspected it may be something about his natural ability as an Absol to sense danger, though his had never really been good about sensing danger and instead was better at sussing out untruths. And despite her protestations, Anya often spoke in ways that hinted she knew way WAY more than she let on.
Aandreas followed Rodinya in joining the party but did so without a word at first which naturally surprised the rest. But as soon as Rodinya introduced him as "Uncle A" and briefly chastised him for just appearing and lurking menacingly, the rest welcomed him in. Benock especially trying to make him feel welcome.
Over time, he even learned how to lower his guard some around the party and even began to develop a deeper than he ever expected friendship with the little green Lycanroc. Similar to the friendship he had with Vasily, but different and deeper in a way he was unaccustomed to.
He also continued to always keep an eye on Anya as he could never shake the sense there was something 'off' about her. Often employing his decades worth of skill as an agent in the Tajaawlran intelligence network to ask questions and try to catch the Absol/Sneasel in a lie or to get her to admit to something that might explain why she felt so 'off' to him. One day he would succeed and he would learn the truth of who and what she was and where she was from. Even finding himself going there as well in a way that also still left him in the , but that's a long and confusing story for another lore story.
As Aandreas has integrated himself into the party, he has grown to be a valued and trusted member even if he somehow manages to loom over some of the party in an intimidating way even without actually looming over them. Even finally managing to reclaim that long lost sense of family from his old Wandering Band growing up.
Realized after posting Aandreas' anthro ref that I never posted his quad ref ^^;
Also... Heck of a-lot of backstory for him even before his time over in the Ynaaverse c.c
This backstory also actually contains a fair number of references to regions and characters in the original setting he's from (and is still in), especially the Tajaawlra region which is one of my own creation that I'm quite happy with!
~ More of Aandreas the Unusually Large Absol/Mightyena ~
As always, questions, comments, thoughts, suggestions, and critiques are welcome!

Realized after posting Aandreas' anthro ref that I never posted his quad ref ^^;
