Alpine Trial (by DocFurPanic) - Third Raffle Prize
In the high Alps, hidden between rugged peaks and ancient glaciers, a mighty guardian dragon has lived for centuries.
Its task is to guard the ancient paths – those secret passages once created by the dragon gods to connect lands.
These paths are dangerous and full of magic, and only those who have earned the goodwill of the mountains are allowed to travel them.
One day, a young dragon prince from Italy enters the area.
He is on a pilgrimage, driven by a longing to understand the legacy of his ancestors and to find new alliances.
But he doesn't know the ancient laws of the Alps – that no one may cross the sacred passes without first being tested by the guardian.
The guardian dragon does not see the prince as an enemy, but he is bound by his oath.
In his eyes, anyone who enters the pass without permission could be a threat to the balance of the Alps and their inhabitants.
The prince, in turn, misunderstands the guardian's attack: he believes that his honour and his right of passage are being questioned.
Thus, two noble beings clash, not out of hatred, but because duty, pride and ignorance drive them into an inevitable battle.
Only later, when the fire and storm have subsided, do both realise that they are actually on the same side – protectors of their lands, each in their own way~____________________________
