Face to Face With Melyssa (Animation)
Melyssa has come a long way since her first ever appearance as a random nameless lamia intended for a one-off design in this pic Snug As A Bug. But she's back with an even more mesmerizing stare at you.
As difficult as animation is, I keep getting the itch to do more. And I had an idea for doing the eyes for a hypno pic by just animating one single ring and offsetting the frames and merging them. It didn't end up exactly how I intended originally but it shifted in the creative process.
Overall I'm suuuuper happy with how this came out and I had SO much fun playing with all the effects and stuff to make it pop.
Melyssa may have started with the intention of being a throwaway design for a single pic that people resonated far more than I anticipated, but over the years of drawing her for commissions and eventually for myself, I've really grown to love her quite a lot.
I hope to write up a proper backstory/introduction based on what I hinted at in her refsheet. But for now I'm just having fun drawing her~
There is another picture with her I started drawing just for me, and I realised also that this one looks like it could be linked to it as a POV shot XD
So look forward to that.
(Though I'm so overloaded with commissions and YCHs that it may be a little bit.)

Oh damn your animation skills are getting hella good! Looks really smooth, really love how the hypno rings slow for a second before pushing out, gives that much more life to the whole thing.
Also I swear your lighting keeps improving with every piece you do right now, Melyssa looks gorgeous in this piece!

one day, maybe one day I'll achieve my dream of doing a full snake coiling hypnosis scene~ Full Kaa encoutner but with original chars and writing X3

The rings I specifically drew to have more frames closer to the start and end than in the middle, I wasn't sure how it was gonna work but I think it came out well!
And about the lighting too! I didn't think I did much to this piece haha. But a lot of people like it. Thanks~!

Ooh that’d be fun to see if you ever took your animating that far!
Ngl if you ever decided to mess around with smaller animations in comms as practice to help you get to that level, I’d probably be pretty interested lol. Will definitely enjoy any animation stuff you do regardless though, if this is the direction it’s going!
As far as the lighting, I feel like you’ve established a great style with that since about a year or so ago, so maybe you didn’t do too much that’s suuuper different here, but I feel like your lighting has gradually gotten more and more refined as you’ve made more fully shaded pieces recently. The effects you did around the edges of the animation make it pop all the more too!

I definitely do wanna do animated commissions one day~ It's just something to work up to haha, and I'm especially more nervous about doing it with new customers (I've had a few people asking about animated coms or YCHs lately haha). But I'd love to try something simple and fun.
