And we're back to another illustration for A Different Lesson! Although there will be only one more before the year is done, due to various financial issues...
So this one is from Chapter 14, when Tai Lung, Po, and the Five are ordered by Shifu (as part of his unusual new training for the snow leopard) to clean out Oogway's room. After going through all manner of items from the mundane to the valuable, funny to naughty, and heartwarming to philosophical, there is only one cabinet left that has always been locked. But with a key provided to Mantis by the red panda, the group discovers that it contains remnants of Tai Lung's past meant to help rekindle old feelings and beliefs, to remind him of whom he once was and could be again, if he only believes and works to better himself: an old stuffed snow leopard toy, an action figure of himself from before his rampage (this was written before it was revealed Po made his figures himself, so I was operating under the assumption the Valley had lots of kung fu souvenirs and "merchandise" for the Five and other kung fu masters, and had for many years--at least back to Tai Lung's youth), and a silk painting of him as a cub with Oogway. As Shifu planned, Tai Lung is left speechless, overwhelmed, and emotionally compromised by these discoveries, and has to stay behind for some time, contemplating these items and where his road will go from here.
Tai Lung and Oogway are copyrighted to DreamWorks, though from the story and situation I devised. Art by MasterLan.

You're right...perhaps he did at one point or another, though I suspect if Shifu didn't train it out of him, he stopped himself at some point when he'd convinced himself he was too "manly" for such a thing. Hopefully once he's mellowed out, taken a level in kindness, and become a good guy by the end of ADL, he might start doing so again. Certainly with his cubs, and probably encouraging them to as well!
But he certainly could use such a comfort here...
