Designing the costumes is a painstaking historical project. Of course, I’m dressing the Norman nobility in cool tones to set them apart from the Saxons or Scots. Pavel himself is trying on a luxurious barma for the first time—something fit for the highest Slavic nobility and princes. Since Klucky has a clear Scottish accent, she’s exempt from the Norman color scheme. At the dinner, they’ll be discussing trade, Baltic security, and funding for the Prince to ease the financial strain on the Saxon population and gentry, while boosting the Prince’s authority (since he’ll be king someday anyway). A marriage to Marian Fitzwalter was also on the agenda, but Pavel insisted on holding off the official announcement—though he’s already paid half the massive dowry for such a union. As you can see, John is wearing the gifted royal Slavic fur coat (even though whole furs weren’t shipped to avoid damaging the sable), and he’s extremely grateful for such a regal present. Meanwhile, Marian and Klucky went all out hunting for their finest outfits—this was the challenge I threw at them back in the Healing chapter, and you could see the excitement spark in their eyes.

As residents of the Novgorod Republic, where power has long belonged to a democratic council (in reality, we, the boyars, are the ones making the decisions heh), we find this an extremely attractive innovation. While the Magna Carta favors the interests of the barons, it is a significant step toward a fully-fledged constitution. Limiting the king's power to form the foundations of a future parliament is truly an evolution.)
I love your art and comics so much!!! I especially love the clothing you dress them in. Do you mind sharing what medival clothing refrences you use? I have been trying to dig around online for any pictures of what nobles wore in Europe during the medival period, but have found little to none.
The thing is, I use a ton of Pinterest references to gather material. But the final design is always my own. However, I personally wear a black Byzantine shirt similar to this one:

And a Byzantine cloak. Lisa is dressed like a classic Russian noblewoman of the 12th-16th centuries. Take, for example, the image of Olga the Great and iconographic images and you will get Lisa:

Regarding Norman-English fashion, I use basic Disney + historical references.
