Caedes sits from behind her GM screen, looking over at the players as they describe their characters heading back into the haunted tomb which they're currently exploring.
"You all head back down into the dark tomb, heading back to the family's burial rooms where you found the keys. But the mage..." She turns to the mage's player with a devious smirk. "You stayed behind in the room while your party went to fetch supplies, right?"
The mage player looks up, a slight hint of worry on her face. "Um...yeah, I did. Taking notes on the...architecture and artifacts."
"Right. Well, you don't hear your friends approaching just yet. But as you jot down your notes, you hear...shuffling. Loud enough to notice. And when you look up, you see four large legs poking out from a hole in the wall. They pull, and a few moments later a giant spider has joined you in the room."
The player goes stiff, eyes going wide, a look of mild panic on her face. And then...
"I would like to cast Fireball at max level."
There's a fair bit of laughter at the table, Caedes herself unable to keep from cracking an amused grin.
"Alright, well, you're up first in initiative, so make your roll."
The player rolls, then curses. Caedes looks. Dice rolled a 17. 14 or lower needed to succeed.
"Will you-"
"Yes, I'm pushing it."
The player scribbles down on her page, then rolls the dice again. Hers and everyone else's eyes go wide as the dice lands on a 1, drawn and decorated in the likeness of a dragon.
"You rolled a dragon, nice!" Caedes cheers.
"Woo! Double damage to the spider!"
The player rolls her damage dice and proceeds to wipe out 2/3s of the spider's health with one attack. There's a few more cheers at the table before the other players rush in to join the fight.
I'll be honest, someone showed me this YCH the other day and I pretty much instantly knew I needed to grab it. xD I've been getting very much into roleplaying games for the past few years and recently got started as a GM for some of my friends. It's been a lot of fun so far and has really become a new big hobby for me. And it was just too cute having a little mini-me wrapped around the dice~
That said, the original showed the dice landing on a 20. I decided to make it a bit more personalized.
Like most anyone getting into RPGs, I got started into D&D. But earlier this year, I discovered another called Dragonbane/Drakar och Demoner. Since my mate has talked a lot about how much fun she's had with past editions of DoD, I figured it'd be worth a try. One one-shot and a few homebrew quests later and I've pretty much fallen in love with it, so personalizing the dice to reflect that felt fitting. Hence the dice now landing on a 1 (the best possible outcome) which is shaped like a dragon!
And features Sanguis's female form, Caedes, to spice the gallery up a little.
And yes, the story may be inspired by a real event from a game I ran the night before. xD It was amazing to witness.
