Artificial Something or Other - a Judge Bulldog story
Sometimes a story writes quickly, and other times it is a slower process - sort of like trudging through deep mud. This one was a little of both. I wanted it to say something rather specific, but I wanted it to be perfectly understood in the telling.
Today's story is about a subject that concerns us all. Perhaps it is satirical humor, but then again, it is also reflective of how humanity tends to do away with itself for various reasons, most of which is reflective of money and laziness.
Case in point - when people stop being able to read, and write, because the machine does it for them - that is actually a tragedy, is it not?

Your point comes across loud and clear, over. I appreciate that in the shape-shifting you're also hitting on the attempted rejection of accountability that comes into so much of the generative stuff when it's used in settings where it really oughtn't be.
It's a fascinating conundrum to watch, sort of like a train wreck, but I wish it would stay in fictional worlds like the Judge's (not that he ought to have to deal with it either, but he is fictional. Hopefully he understands.)

*chuckles... I think he understands more than people might think.
I purchased a book written in the late 1800s once, and the forward was a complete rant about book critics, and how they totally made or broke a writer's career. The book, itself, was a wonderful seafaring novel. It wasn't until later I put things together. Books were the epitome of entertainment back then. There wasn't much else. Thereby, I realized how important reading and writing were. Over the years, other things have swooped in attempting to take their share of the market - radio, TV, and movies. Now we have so much more meant to distract us, to the point that the new generations don't read like we used to.
Certainly everything changes, but that does not mean all changes are good.

And thus, the only actual action one can take to stop such a tool from being used was taken. Unfortunately, a lot of folks aren't taking that action. I myself use it as reference material, as I am a writer and not an artist. I can describe a thing in exquisite detail, but I can't draw to save my life, so if I want an image of said thing, that tool is the only "cheap" way I can get it.
I won't hang such dribble on my walls, though. My house is home to quite a number of artistic pieces commissioned throughout the years and thus it shall stay!

My brain plays tricks upon me sometimes fc... that is, it will argue both sides of the coin just because it can. I have nothing against AI - it is a tool. That said, I feel as though the great artist in this world will not develop their skills simply because AI will make it too easy.

A well-written yarn, to be sure. Good one, Vix!
Part of me wonders what would've happened if you'd gone onto one of the LLMs, given it the rundown of the scenario, and used its defense as the machine's dialogue in the story.
Then again, it probably works better the way you've got it written here. ;)

ummmmm... what's an LLM?
In truth, I am not opposed to AI. It's been here for a long time, and people were forewarned plenty of times. It is a tool to be used with plus items if you wish to argue all the points. Some of the art is incredible, but I also have friends who are outstanding artists. On the downside, it is very hard to compete with 'free'.
In my case, I understand the old ways because I lived it. I would say that boomers are right in the middle of how life is/was lived. My grandparents were born in the 1890s. I remember when TV dinners came about and heralded as the way to cook.
Thanks for the read. Didn't mean to talk your ear off.

Brava.
In the days of Yesteryear, "Get a Horse" was yelled at the operators of the sputtering, spewing, self-propelled carriages. It was figured only five computers would be needed in the world when they were powered by Vacuum tubes. Even manned flight was once a cautionary tale of Icarus.
Now we walk through the Uncanny Valley and listen to the odd cadence and elocution and gaze upon the skewed images that are generated by this synthetic creature at the behest of humanity.
I second the motion of keeping the Whackadoodle a dead zone barring this digital trickster.

I just read an article (you can google it) that the #1 Christian song presently on the charts is composed and sung by a completely pretend person - all done by AI. This has also happened on the country charts, and I think also on Pop.
The red flag danger represented by the Christian song (my opinion) is the fact the pretend singer and songs are in a solid position to influence lives holding close to a religion. I have been told by those in the AI race that it is a tool. In other words, it is a soulless machine.
It's a deep well so we needn't go there.
