Transformer - Electric Shock Spell
Some of the requests made by mortals who come to the laboratory are sometimes strange. Nevertheless, with enough work and research, it is possible to fulfil their intentions, especially if they are in line with the needs of the Manor or research already underway.
In this case, this human came at just the right time for the various technologies amassed by the Librarian of Netsethk, who was frustrated at not being able to connect certain devices due to a lack of suitable transformers.
After some research and an intervention by the Librarian of Netsethk, it became clear that the word ‘transformer’ was not to be taken literally, but was a reference to a collection of graphic, literary and video game works from what humans call ‘pop culture’.

That would indeed be an excellent idea. Or to provide a clear and precise illustration and description of their fantasy, which could prove to be quite radical for their future.
However... This could greatly affect the pages presented if all test subjects were particularly well informed about the processes and results.

I bet this won't be the last human to ask for this... The next one will be thinking that they'd want to be a transformer as in a shape-shifter, heh heh.
And then, the one that actually wants to be an electric transformer, will be misunderstood to want to be a shape-shifter or one of those... big robot things.

If the subject specifically requests to be a shapeshifter, this can be done. This was in fact underway for the specimen on this page (failed experiment, mature content), although an error in the process drastically changed the result.
However, communication errors do occur.
Clear speech, without any hidden meanings, is preferable in this case.

It is advisable to provide details and context for a request, especially in this type of case, yes.
However, this would not prevent communication errors from occurring. Nor would it prevent a somewhat devious entity from using the slightest detail to overturn a situation that had been carefully planned in advance by the person making the request.

So wouldn't adding the request for some degree of intelligence (for example, an intelligent transformer) be a good work around? That would maybe turn it into an electronically programmable transformer, giving a place for the things that make her human to go, meaning it could potentially be reversed.
(OOC: The following is the interpretation of the character The Owlverlord. I'm warning you in advance because I don't think I've seen your username very often and the character... well, it doesn't like humans.)
Keep some form of intelligence within the tool? In the case of an adaptable transformer, this seems superfluous. Be aware, however, that this is possible. Superfluous, but possible.
Let's say we put your request into practice: the transformer retains some of its human consciousness.
The first problem would be this: since this was not the type of transformer the subject wanted, they would seek to obtain the form they originally desired, namely a kind of giant robot capable of imitating the shape of a vehicle or other objects containing electronics. To manifest itself, the specimen would either be capable of speech or not. In any case, it could show its dissatisfaction in several ways, including refusing to cooperate.
A tool that works perfectly well but refuses to work is a useless tool.
Therefore, in addition to retaining part of the consciousness, it would be necessary to modify it in order to remove any desire for rebellion from the subject. This requires more arcanic energy during the synthesis of the spell than the simple transformation into an inert object.
Let us assume that the tool agrees to cooperate, while retaining its consciousness. Wall plugs, when required by the technology deployed, are shown as needing to be changed manually. External intervention will therefore be required in any case to change the electrical plugs. Otherwise, a metamorphosis clause specific to connectors and transformers must also be inserted in the spell. This clause must be broad enough to cover devices with varying degrees of technological advancement, including biotech, without being so broad that the tool attempts to resume a humanoid form.
As far as programming is concerned, even for a heat lamp that needs to turn on at certain times of the day, it can be connected in combination with the transformer. Again, an external presence is sufficient to set up the device and turn it off when no longer in use. The intelligence of the transformer adds no value.
The only reason your question is interesting is from a social studies perspective. Such a question may lead one to think that your preferences lean towards objects that have a certain human consciousness, or even towards the impermanence of metamorphosis. Or perhaps a kind of morality that would lead you to think that this transformation is the premature death of a soul...
This kind of consideration does not concern me in the least.

I believe this might be a case of miscommunication, much like the initial request of the above subject. Let me restart from scratch, if you found someone willing to become this type of transformer, and not the movie type this subject desired, wouldn't that change the equation significantly? I'm making the assumption here that if you found a willing subject you would not need additional arcane energy to remove the desire for rebellion, as the subject knew what they were getting into and which function they'd fulfil. In that case, and assuming there's a chance of reversal with the mind and soul intact, the likelihood of finding willing subjects would increase dramatically.
As to why anyone would agree to this, it would enable the exploration of transhumanism to a much greater level, and enable new experiences that might be worth exploring. I would definitely find myself a willing test subject for such experimentation. At the same time, the individual performing the transformation would gain an object with far more capabilities if the subject is willing to cooperate, potentially removing the need for manual interaction. For example, the Librarian of Netsethk her phone needs might be significantly easier to fill in that manner, and the AI features on the phone might be significantly more willing to cooperate - while they might presumably hold a hostile streak towards her right now.

As for smartphone transformation, ‘artificial intelligence’ does indeed have the personality of the former mortal, as well as her knowledge. However, it no longer has any will of its own. The new AI cannot initiate conversation, it can only respond and has no decision-making power or will of its own. There is therefore no resentment in its behaviour.
The energy required to leave or remove consciousness is negligible. Nevertheless, reversing the transformation is very complicated and requires a great deal of energy. This is true for almost all transformations from flesh to inert materials such as rock and metal : from flesh to metal is simple, from metal to flesh is very complicated. It is absolutely not worth the effort.
And again: this transformer model must be connected to an electrical outlet. Conscious or not, external intervention will be required to plug it in.
So, on the contrary, I do not think there has been any misunderstanding. But if you still think so, please note that the beginning and conclusion of the previous message remain valid.
This is completely superfluous. This kind of consideration does not concern me in the least. It is possible to add: the possibility of a return is even a waste of time and energy. So there is no point.
