NO! That's a Krag-Jorgenssen! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprin.....892%E2%80%9399
If it had been a disfigured stick with scrapmetal shrapnel janked onto it and unable to hit the broadside of a barn beyond 9m, it would be a Mosin.

You, good Sir, please shut your piehole!
My Vz54 and M39 Nagants are tackdrivers. ALL the russian ones I had had a sticky bolts but were reasonably accurate. The shights are pretty OK for open sights ( better than the 98k ones anyway ). But the general design is inferior to the 98/Enfield/K31etc ones.
Still lightyears ahead of that Carcano shit.
There are 3 bolt actions I would go into the wild with: Mauser, Enfield and Schmidt-Rubin. In that order

the ONLY Mosin I have ever fired that could hit a man-sized target at ranges over 3m was a Mosin clone built with all new parts and a fiberglass stock. the only original part left was the cleaning rod.
Your AVERAGE SURPLUS m90/32/44 has a bore that is so rusted and shot out from neglect, abuse, and extremely corrosive powder, it is basically an 11mm bore.
Give me an abused dumpster-fire of a surplus m1911 at ranges of 80km over a Mosin of any quality beyond 3m every second of every day

The powder is never corrosive. The corrosive part is the primer.
And all my Mosin Nagants ( M39, M1944P, M1891/30HU, M1891/59, M1891/30Hex, Vz54 ) had pristine barrels and were reasonably accurate, the 39 and 54 actually VERY accurate with my handloads. In fact the only MN I have ever seen with a rusted off barrel was a brand new M1944 ( polish made ) where the owner did not realize that the old surplus ammo he used was corrosive. Looked like the moon surface, yet was basicly band new otherwise.

I have no issue hitting center mass (6in groups) at 100 yards with my M44 carbine (and I'm nowhere near being a perfect marksman). It was new/unissued when I got it in 2000 or 2001, and all these years later, I still have no issues with accuracy.
It wouldn't be my go-to in a survival situation, but you could do a lot worse.
Whenever I hear folks complain about Nagants, they almost always mention the lousy condition of the ones they've fired as if any other rifle would shoot perfect >4in groups with a rusted-out barrel and 70yo ammo.

I bought my Mosin still covered in cosmoline. Receiver is stamped 1943. Thing shoots straight as can be; only issue I have with it is the springs in the bolt for the safety are so stiff I'm afraid I'll break something if I try to apply it so instead I 'safe' it by putting the bolt in one of the sling pouches that came with it.
