A little "alternate world" picture I wanted to draw since my return from Constantinople. I thought it would be fun to send my characters with the frigate Venom in the Mediterranean Sea. To annoy the British even more, and to underline the aspect that my main character Jaqard duSang has no links to his former home France in any way, he becomes privateer for the Ottoman Empire. With a modern warship, this will be quite "fun" for the Italian,Spanish and French coast.
For those who do not know, until the eighteen hundreds Turks have been a serious thread, ruling a well organized empire from Mecca to the Danube river. The red flag is the most common Turkish flag until 1793 showing only the half moon on crimson red.
This image was done after a photograph - besides the ship, naturally. And yes, of course I used reference for it. During sunset, the Bosphorus has quite a unique, misty light, which I tried to capture here as well. There was no bridge until the 19th century, so this view is historical accurate. In the background you can see the Süleymaniye Mosque.
Hope you enjoy

Wasn't that red? http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Egypt_flag_1882.svg&filetimestamp=20060924004738
I wanted to use this first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:B.....rance_1543.jpg but then I thought it might be not obvious enough to settle the mood.

I really like this image because it's evident a lot of thought was put into it. Not merely just "Dressing up the characters as 'morphs, but also taking the history of the time into consideration. I also like the watercolor effect. It really makes the image look like it was done in that time.
