That and the ones with premixed .5 litre cans of Slo Gin Fizz and Gin & Tonic were welcome finds in the hotel when I had to wait out the hurricane when I was visiting. Come to think of it I think they had that in a can for sale too. And at about 500 Yen (then worth about 4.25), you couldn't beat the price.
are there bento vending machines?
i remember the first hot canned food vending machine i saw back in the late 50s. it was in this pier where you got off the train and onto the ferry boats that they used to have in oakland to go across the bay to san francisco. it was called the oakland mole. which always seemed like an odd name for a ferry boat pier, but i guess because it was kind of dark, all inclosed, with all the trains backing into it. sometime later in the mid 60s the railroad my dad worked for and we rode all the time, put a bunch of different kinds of hot and cold food vending machines inside one of the cars on the semi-local passenger train and called it the automat car. i liked the idea and thought every train should have one.
