While that notion is certainly true it just kind of feels... wrong.

This is why I don't watch BBC Wildlife. "And now we see, the darned cute hare getting eaten by a cheetah".

Strictly speaking, Piranha are scavengers, their predatory nature is extremely overhyped. They tend to take a little nip and if the "victem" jerks away, they swim away. This is for a number of reasons, but most prevalently because the fish are small and easily injured, and because waterlogged meat is much easier to tear apart.

Aw, poor ottah gonna get tail-nipped. I'm sure it'll be okay, though; giant amazonian otters are the only critter that hunts red piranhas! (tail-first)
