THIS IS NOT THE LAST PAGE
I am trying to sit on these submissions longer. . . I REALLY am. But they're done, and just. . . sitting here, waiting to be posted. It's too hard to wait!
Queue the jubilation and hate in successive volleys!
Seriously. . . watching the responses to this comic has been AMAZING. It's so great that the story can mean so many different things to so many different people. I could not be happier, today :)
'Unconditional' is now available for pre-order, right here: http://furplanet.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=594
Now mind you, none of these orders will be shipping until the end of June. But if you put in your order now, you're guaranteed a copy :)
The printed version of Unconditional includes the entire story, in color, as well as five pages that will not be posted online. These pages include a few adult scenes, but mostly, they are an epilogue to Marcus and Reis's story.
Note: If you order one of these books online, you will NOT be able to pick up your copy at Anthrocon, unless you're purchasing a separate copy. Just wanna make that clear. This is NOT a pre-order for Anthrocon pickup!
It's also worth mentioning, we will likely not have many copies at AC this year, due to the amount of time it takes to print. I'm sure Furplanet will bring as many as they can, but if you ABSOLUTELY want to nab a copy at AC, be prepared to be in the Dealer's Den Friday morning, first thing, or you may miss out.
This comic is a sequel! The first comic, 'Cruelty', can be read here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554/
Posting this disclaimer on every page, so no one can say they didn't see it. No need to read it if you already have, it's just for newcomers:
- This comic will contain adult content, swearing, violence, death, and some very difficult political and social subject matter. If you're the sort of sensitive person who can't handle that, this comic is not for you.
- Not ALL of the content in this comic will be posted online. I'll be withholding one of the adult scenes from the online release, reserved for the eventual print release. HOWEVER. Just like 'Cruelty', this comic WILL have one full adult scene posted online. Any complaints about the withheld content will be ignored, and likely scorned by the folks who DO enjoy what's posted online. So don't be an ass.
- This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'. This comic follows the storyline of 'Cruelty' regardless of which 'path' you took, but it is assumed the characters eventually began a relationship. The comic deals with gay issues, as well as a gay relationship. Deal with it, or GTFO.

Not the last comic about these two.
The last major comic with the pair of them.
I remember Rukis saying she'd do some small comics with the two of them as well as continue doing pictures for them.
And I heard from one person she'll write an Post-Comic story for them like she did with Priorities after she had wrapped up Cruelty.
So it's not like the pair of them will go away....But a big comic like Unconditional or Cruelty? Apparently no. :(

Heck, after seeing Cruelty this comic was a nice surprise. In my opinion, better story telling here. This one was a lot more "real" with the issues faced and all. There's little things that never really got tied up but hell, the comic is very well drawn and to draw every little detail over and over. I think the best way to put the absence of those details are "she's leaving it up to our interpretation" lol!
Isn't Sidian doing something with Jacob? A spin off?
Isn't Sidian doing something with Jacob? A spin off?
I loved Cruelty personally...Personal reasons for that.
And the issues in Cruelty are pretty powerful....But then again so were the issues in these.
And yes it is very well drawn and the details are amazing....I can't really decide which art style is better though....Their both pretty amazing. :3
And yeah Sidian is doing a spin-off involving Jacob and the Bunny Doctor. It deals with what Marcus spoke to Jacob about in the comic and the events happening after. Chances are we might see Marcus again. :p

I had a feeling it might be this.
I wasn't 100% though because Marcus does REALLY hate Mayfield (And with good reason.) and it's likely that even though there's a local law firm he can work at there it's a huge step down from what he was hoping to do.
I was hoping something like this would happen. ^.^

Rukis, this is fantastic! And your writing is great too. Like, it's just great to see a phenominally drawn comic with the words to back it up instead of... Sloppy writing. I'm so excited whenever I see a page in my submissions. And you posting more today is even better so... Yay. x3

Dang it Rukis....you have not only created a story that has kept me so hooked that I often found myself hitting the refresh button with anticipation of finding a new submission under your name, but you have also posted a page that has made me both smile and cry at the same time. Thank you, you've definitely made my day .

Yep, got this one right at least. I bet Marcus was afraid Reis just might talk him out of it if he'd told him he go with a potentially lower end internship just to be with him again. Still, certainly looks like the wolf dog is happy to see him, and Marcus scores a lot of points for the respect he's he's giving Reis in simply visiting and not thrusting himself into Reis' life. He's not asking to live with him, but letting Reis know that's an option, and letting him make the decision. Very mature.
Also, dang, it's hard to believe it's been 58 pages. I mean, really? It's been that long? And now it's almost over? Sigh...I envy you and your storytelling abilities, I really do. I've been a struggling writer for years, and I've yet to break through on a personal level. Why must it be so difficult to do something I'm honestly passionate about?

and this is where you wouldn't submit more just to you know boost sales atleast make those preorders jump. It's been a wonderful story, but I understand if you have to leave a cliffhanger. It would I know make probably many scream no in not getting more pages. C'mon you can be evil

I didn't expect this. I was expecting that he found someone else to be with. Great job on throwing me off!
Rukis, you have definitely made a great comic with such a story that it keeps me coming back for more. I'm definitely buying these because it's great to read, you do an awesome job with sequence and quality!
Keep up the great work. C:

Well, I actually started tearing up. I'm just so glad to see these two back together.
Good on you, man. You can actually make a comic that gets people emotionally connected with the characters, getting people to genuinely care about what happens to someone that doesn't exist outside of a bunch of data. Maybe it's because you cover subjects that hit close to home, or maybe it's just how well you flesh them out, but this is one series I've followed like a puppy, experiencing the ups and downs as it went.
You deserve high praise. :3

Wow...I'll admit, the past 7 pages have made me feel sad and a little empty...but this page just filled my heart with joy and brightened my world with jubilation! ^w^ Rukis, you really know not just how to write a story, but to make people spend money on them. You can expect me to be one of the first people in the dealer's room on the 15th X3

Same.....It's been really depressing...Seeing Reis leaving their apartment and everything was just super depressing. :(
But now? Their both back together. :D
Reis can finish up his stuff and in a few years he can transfer and Marcus can wrap up his internship and hopefully get a super good job. ^.^

                    This is so awesome <3
Btw...for some reason I got interested in Jacob's story, lol. In my opinion he isn't that much of a jerk as much as someone very hurt who always keeps their guard up but ends up hurting himself even more and I quite like such characters because they can be viewed from a lot of perspectives.

I hope so but given that the comic has been one crappy thing after another happening to Reis and the profession he is going into I think that the chance is there that something else will happen. I very nearly stopped watching at the car accident part so now I am just waiting to see if the end is happy. As I said I am not celebrating because one good thing happened.

There's only a handful of pages left.
I doubt something horrible and tragic will happen in that short span of time.
Of course on the other hand if what I heard is correct and Rukis is doing a short written text story set soon after Unconditional we'll probably see more tragedy....Mostly in the form of the bigoted locals probably trying to fuck with Reis and Marcus....Of course given that Reis is a cop and Marcus is working as an intern for the local District Attorneys office....

If she does I'll not be reading it. I loved Cruelty and I think these two characters are my favorite fictional couple. Maybe Dev and Lee from Kyell Gold's books beat them it is too close to tell. Anyway, point is that even though I like drama this comic has had too much for me. So, I will finish it and if it has a happy ending just stick with it there.

This comic has honestly been one of the few pieces of literature that has ever evoked an emotional response in me and I must say Rukis that not only do I love where its going now (although you had me on the edge for a while there) but you have also only gotten better at writing story lines and dialogue . CHEERS!

I'm loving this, still loving it...but the plot does seem super-rushed at this point; a lot of things skipped over. I understand the necessity but the transition doesn't feel very smooth.
Great work, still, though, and I love seeing the interactions between all the characters. It's very vibrant & real.

                    No.
Originally Cruelty was supposed to be the only comic with the pair and the story was going to end there.
Fan reaction for Cruelty was SO big though that Rukis began to plan and tinker before beginning to start Unconditional.
Rukis has made it pretty clear that this is going to be the last major story about these two.
She's still going to draw pictures of the two and make smaller comics about them....But there's probably never going to be another Cruelty or Unconditional.

I see a huge hug and kiss in the near future. I have to tell you this comic means a lot to me. I find myself eagerly checking my FA page maybe a dozen times a day to see what happens next. Their dialogue coupled with your amazing artistic ability to convey emotion is truly inspiring. I hope this comic and these characters live on forever. Enough gushing, thanks for the wonderful story, it is a work of art!

*Sits patiently and waits for another twist* lol
Though in all honesty, It would've been awesome if we got to see a bit more development on Reis' part, while he was by himself. All this jumping around really breaks the story up. Big big goodbye, a transition page, and a big big surprise hello the next one is just too quick.
Its like when they kill someone in a series, and you're all :O WTF IS HAPPENING NO THIS iS NOT HAPPENING!... Then, in the next episode: "LOL just kidding, still alive, that was my clone or something..." Feels rather pointless :P
Not dissing on whats already done, just mentioning it for future developments :)

Oh definitely. What usually lead up to moments like these is lack of planning, so i was pointing it out so in future projects it can be addressed. And im not sure if it was intended or "shit, gotta finish this before AC so imma cut it here, here, and there" sort of deal. Happens quite often.

And by the way... 'blur' effect FTW!
I remember Rukis sayin' earlier she doesn't like to overuse the blur function, but IMHO it works here. It really helps put the main characters in the foreground and all the other activity (houses, trees, grass, tons of stuff) in the background. Puts the reader's primary focus on what's important, right where it should be. Plus I'm pretty sure it saved her a few hours worth of sleep time ;)

Glad you're reading the comments and dialogues that've started from your stories. I was beginning to think you didn't browse over them at this rate (heck, maybe when they go on for too long you don't xD)
I like that there's a happy ending and they're together. To be honest, I think the page before this one is still my favorite. Makes me so happy to see Reis had the strength to be on his own and learn to be a responsible young adult (independent and clean too) -- it's nice that there's a happy ending. At first I thought it'd be awkward and weird that they had sort of drifted and suddenly -there he was- but I remembered that they've known each other since high school and been together for a long time. So in the grand scheme, 8 months truly isn't that long. Less than a school year apart (right? it's been a while xD)
Great story telling. It's been neat to watch people dissect the panels, meanings, and characters motivations. Did it inspire how the story moved along at all? (not sure how far in advance you had this completed)

Pg 58, approx 80 pages. I don't want the comic to end. It's been intense and I don't think you have any other characters I can relate to like these guys. It's the first comic I've had an emotional response to. Hope this isn't the last in the series. I can see where this sequel would fit but sadly a third isn't easily justified. I'm glad there's a few more to go anyway, I'm not satisfied XD.

This comic comes along at an important time hehe, Cayce and I had a rough day which is getting better but still. As I mentioned a few comics back these characters reflect our personalities and situation amazingly damn closely... it makes me smile really wide to see that these characters can make it work and I truly believe we can too.

You know, this will probably get buried in the tons of comments you get, but I just wanted to say thank you. These comics are very entertaining to read, and the storyline for this one has definitely sucked me into it. Thank you for doing what you do, and please don't ever stop.

It's then the bullies from the previous comic show up unexpectedly brandishing guns. They've turned to a life of crime. They begin shooting taking out Marcus in slow motion ... the song that goes "mmm whatcha say? Mmm that you only meant well? Well of course you did Mmm whatcha say? That it was all for the best," starts up.
Reis wakes up with a start, nudges Lou and tells him they need to get up for work. Lou asks if Reis is okay because he's sweating to which Reis replies, "Eh just had a crazy dream about high school and being a cop and all. I can't remember to much. It's gone now. I'll go make coffee." THE END

If I wasn't tired from my brain waking itself up 45 minutes before my alarm this morning, I would cry happy tears at how this page ended. Its sweet how things seem to change themselves around to have Marcus turn it around to come back to his hometown instead of being in another state away from the one he loves

DAMN IT JUST INVITE HIM IN AND GET BACK TO WHERE YOU LEFT OFF! I DO NOT CARE IF IT IS A FAIRY TALE END THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST COUPLES EVER!
Sorry for my rant but for serious, we have way to few fictional gay couple who feel real. For some reason other forms of persecution fall under the same tree and the focus is persecution as it is here however when you speak of homosexuality the focus is sex unlike here where is is just part of life, it happens in a way the feels real instead of lets fuck because we overcame that bigot or worse being just lets fuck.

Hold him Reis and never let him go again!!!
Seriously this was soooo how I was hoping this would end. Now they just better make it work. It might not be perfect but they will always have work and each other. And to me I think that would be all right. :)
Reis looks like he's going to cry also. I love this! Can't wait to see next page.

the reason your comic stories move so many ppl is because most of them have been through the things Reis and Marcus have before, or like in my case are going through it now. my mate and i are separated by 2 states cause of his college but its comics like yours that help me know ill have my beloved in my arms someday *smiles wiping a tear from my cheek* so thank you rukis, thank you for everything you've done for this community. like with cruelty ill definitely be buying unconditional to help you out in the only way i can.

You sir are a master at this. I am sorry, but this is the first time in my life a comic has gotten me to cheer out loud when something happened. I have never felt so emotionally invested in a set of characters before. I know its not the end but ill be damned before I forget to say this

This isn't so much a comic as it is an experience, feeling such strong emotions about fictional characters and situations and sharing them with countless others. Actual proof the creator is observing opinions and feedback. I've not seen so much interaction about a story in furdom in like, ever. Oh sure other comics have ppl comment and the occasional discussion/bitchfight, but on this one so many have duked it out and shed a tear and expressed themselves. Truly, this is something that doesn't come along in a long time. I feel more like I've been to a play or a theatre than just clicking pages on a website. Wonderful page and thanks (atleast from this reader) for taking the time to take in all the feedback.

cried, this entire comic has been a bit of a roller coaster as far as emotional stuff. seems every page stirs a different response than the previous. Always wanted the kinda bf that would do that kinda thing, even if on a smaller note, just the simple gesture is amazing and shows how much you mean to him, I suppose that's why I'm a hopeless romantic and my great x wasn't good enough

                    Yay ! Happy end !
I totally burst into tears. Tears of hapiness and relievement.
This is just awesome, the best end I could have wished for.
Don't you make something bad happen to them again on the last page !
Thanks you so much for this comic Rukis.
It has been the most horrible week of my life, I felt sad and depressed all long, I almost hated you...
But it was worth it, I had never felt such feelings.
That's the most moving thing I've ever read.
Thank you again, you deserve so much.

Awwwww. You just made me cry. Loved this epilogue!!
I've to say I was not particulary fond of Marc this time since most ot the time he was just a selfish dick, but here, I just loved him, Chosing a secon option in favor to be near Reis... And most of all, his attitude at the very end... He's not taking for granted Reis will take him in, he's just letting him know he's there...
Just the perfect end!!!

Hug Me! I'm tearing up. Probably cuz i've been up all night reading up, I was listening Mad World and it just ended after that depression business on the last page. I'm so happy and thank god for not ending it now, I would murder you...kindding, am I? Anyway yay! And as always Love You and your work!

I have to say rukis, thank you so much for this. I've been reading and I got to this page and just cried for 5 minutes. This hit me so hard, I thought I was fine with waiting for the moment when I'd find "that someone", but this helped me realize what I've been missing out of the experience of life. I love this comic and what it has done for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
