i know how u feel. When i have a pic that is complicated like that, i usualy just shade a little harder to make the two objects stand out from eachother. But then the picture starts to look more cartoony rather than real. lol, who doesnt like some Unreality, right?
But anyways, good job on the picture. The fur turned out really well.
