The 70's gave us I Am The Greatest: The Adventures of Muhammad Ali.
To say nothing of the Harlem Globetrotters and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
Oh, and Rubik the Amazing Cube is hands down the WORST godawful show of the entire 80's -- and it had some heavy competition, too!

Very too and Fat Albert would also run into the early 80's. Haha there was some REAL shockers made in the 80's, I regularly use this show as an example of the lowest "toy cartoons" sank in embarrassing shallowness. Haha ho god Teen Turbo, just the other day me and cat_on_the_couch were discussing who that crap looked like some David Cronenberg nightmare.......minus the talent
I was going to make an age joke about knowing those cartoons but then I took a double take and well~
It still makes it no less surprising to me however since this was to advertise the toy, and I'm not sure how many kids thought Muhammmad Ali and the Harlem Globetrotters was entertaining. Fat Albert, not so sure- I'd watch Fat Albert still if they aired it.

Well, there was the Cantinflas show from Hanna-Barbera in the late 70's/early 80's. But this wasn't made for a Saturday Morning line-up -- it's more of an educational program -- so I'm not sure if it counts.
And I was going to mention Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go! -- but again, I don't think that's quite what you had in mind...

yeah I wouldn't count dora and diego because I was trying to focus around the 80s and predating period
I applaud the artists and directors though who were attempting to transition from a predominately white (and racist depictions of blacks and asians) cast of characters to a more acceptable multicultural array of characters so that stuff today wouldn't feel as taboo or like "taking a risk"

The idea would have come from toy manufactures and focus groups, the show wasn't designed to be an entertainment for but a ploy to increase sales to a toy line.....in this case Rubik's Cubes. The animation itself would have been handled much like a sweatshop as that's pretty much how they were treated and the people who had any real creative talent had no say what so ever.
