This is the MLP version of my dragon character, Ecko.
Name: Ecko
Age: 8 (but she appears older, closer to 10)
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Female
Cutie Mark: It appears that she doesn't have her cutie mark. However, that is an optical illusion. Her cutie mark is in fact a gray area that matches her coat exactly, resembling how she see's the world.
Colors:
Coat: Gray
Mane & Tail: alternating shades of gray stripes
Eyes: Ghostly gray with a gradient into white as it gets closer to where her irises should be.
Wings: Light Gray
Ecko was born blind. An accident while Fluttershy (her mother) was pregnant with her caused a form of brain damage. This "brain damage" caused her brain to develop without the ability to see. And because of this, there is no form of medical treatment, surgery, unicorn magic, or anything else that can give her the ability to see.
However, even though the accident took away her ability to see, it also compensated by giving her an alternative sense. Ecko is capable of using echolocation that she can use as a "pseudo-sight". Her echolocation has it's advantages and it's disadvantages. She can "see" in the dark, even in pitch black areas (like in a cave), and she can notice details that no normal pony would notice. But she'll never know the beauty of color since her entire world is gray (how she gets her cutie mark), her echolocation isn't perfect (echos can cause distortions, or other sounds could cause her to see something that isn't really there, or vice versa) and she gets embarrassed when makes a mistake because of a flaw in her pseudo-sight (missing a door, walking into things, falling down stairs, etc.), she can't always identify ponies or tell the difference between different ponies, and her echolocation gives her a heightened sense of hearing. Although a heightened sense of hearing would normally be considered a good thing, it also means she's more sensitive to loud noises. She specifically has a fear of thunderstorms. The thunder temporarily paralyzes her echolocation, causing her to go fully blind for a couple of hours. And they sometimes cause her headaches as well. Also, being Fluttershy's daughter doesn't help with her fear either.
Ecko tends to often appear sad. This is because of a couple reasons. Although she's never truly seen before, she doesn't exactly know what she's missing per se. But she does know that she's missing something, and this can get to her sometimes. She also feels embarrassed when other ponies feel that they need to assist her because she's blind, when she usually can manage on her own. But she feels even more embarrassed when she actually does need that assistance. It just reminds her that she can't do things like normal ponies. Another possible reason for her sad appearance is just that she doesn't exactly know what a smile looks like. Although she can see the details of a smile with her echolocation, she can't practice smiling in front of a mirror or something. Because to her, a mirror is nothing more than another flat surface. So she only smiles when she's truly happy, and she smiles as a natural reaction. Finally, sometimes her sad appearance is nothing more than a misinterpretation. Sometimes her shyness is misinterpreted as a sad appearance. (Take a wild guess who she gets her shyness from.)
Ecko's mane and tail often tend to look a bit scruffy. Being unable to use a mirror makes is so she can't groom herself properly (and is often a nightmare to rarity). So Fluttershy often has to brush her mane and tail for her. That's not that uncommon or fillies her age. However, she can't even preen her own wings properly. So Fluttershy (in privacy, thankfully) has to preen her wings for her. But Fluttershy has also started bringing Ecko to the spa when she goes on her spa days with Rarity. Normally, Rarity would be against Fluttershy bringing her daughter to the spa when that's meant to be THEIR time together. But seeing how scruffy Ecko can get at times, Rarity was more than happy to let Ecko come too.
Even though Ecko is 8, Dax is 16 by this time (since Ecko was born when Dax was 8, two years after this pic of Dax). But regardless of the age difference, Ecko and Dax have become friends. And Dax has even taken on the role of Ecko's "big sister". Ecko appears to be older than she is because she is generally a tall pony, a trait she got from Dark Angel (her father). She is also thin for a pony her age, giving an illusion that she's even taller. Her parents often worry about her health because of how thin she is, and other ponies sometimes worry that her parents aren't feeding her enough. But even though the doctors also worry, they say that she's healthy.
