Sad morning with our kitten Oreo, the mostly black calico, still at the vets after she was seeming sluggish and trouble moving. She spent the night at the vet where they had her on fluids, painkiller, antibiotics and steroids. vet feared she has FIP which is incurable and is contagious to other cats. our other cat Mary we adopted few months ago at the same time as Oreo has been perfectly well and shows no signs of illness. Oreo however is showing no signs of recovery, the moment they took her off fluids her fever returned with a record high so they have her on fluids again. the vet closes at noon on weekend and my car isn't working and it's too late to take a bus. I had taken a cab there and back to bring her in but literally don't have enough to take a cab again. the vet closes at noon on weekends and she would be left unmonitored if stayed there. Vet has offered to take her to another vet for monitoring over the weekend. Oreo's vet bill is currently $650 and they'll take payment within 30 days but said sometimes make exceptions and can do two post dated checks one of this month one for next. even with that I'm going to really struggle to get the money but gladly pay. Really hoping for an improvement in her over the weekend or our options will be to have to put her down. Sadly if improves over the weekend or not, if she does have FIP she wont live much longer anyways. so recovers or gets worse she's going to have to be put down either way most likely. she's only 10 months old
Update:
bad news. After oreo was transferred to the emergency vet clinic for the weekend I was told the estimate for her monitoring over the weekend was actually the amount for just 24 hours. Plus that location doesnt do payment plans of any kind and my credit isnt high enough for the pet insurance so i can not keep her there the whole weekend. Even if she made it to monday this disease would make the rest of her short life uncomfortable and painful. She has to be put down...
Going bit later today to see her and will have to make the call then. there was no getting over this illness for her either way but had hoped something might work out. Do it now or do it later making her suffer, she'd have to be euthanized no matter.....there is no cure. We haven't had her that long but it was enough to be really hurt by this.
