“Goal!”
Half the group of mismatched furs cheered out as the other half grumbled and jogged to their side of the field to get into positions. Now, Soccer was a regular game and nothing nothing could be argued about that. But when you had ten toons forming the teams the resulting game struggled to bear any resemblance to the name.
To say the collection of players was odd would be to make a laughable understatement. There was all sorts of species present. Of course you had the standard toon fair, a stocky, grey furred wolf by the name of Will and a shorter coyote who always referred to himself as the supergenius Omega, and would bludgeon you into submission with claims of his superiority if you didn’t admit the statement. Even a cat who took his name from his species was on the field, the blue grey feline holding his team’s Goals, mostly out of laziness.
Then of course there was the less seen creatures playing as well. A well built Lion named matt sprinted back to his place as his team’s striker, his scruff of blond hair bouncing back and forth. A rather unenthused looking duck called Duino walked some distance behind him, hands in his pockets, apparently only here to show up Omega and also to take the chance to embarrass him in any way possible; either by throwing taunts or by kicking the ball at his head, even if that meant missing the goal by a long shot.
The large, loud and wobbling Jasu screeched proudly, a powerful kick having scored the last goal, rebounding off the head of a young fox by the name of Specs, who even now had a slowly reforming dent in the side of his head where it had hit. The bat had sworn that it had been an accident, but no one would trust Jasu as far as they could throw him, and given that Jasu was the largest here in both height and girth no one seemed all that game to put that to practice.
Then of course there was the more unusual creatures. A hybrid of blue wolf and lemon yellow dragon that manned the other team’s goal was one and the tanuki Zakk who was the only non-toon here. Not that it posed any disadvantage for him. There was also the half toon Red, a Cyberdragon as he called himself. But despite being only half toon he was as formidable, and malleable, as any of the other players. Red was also responsible for a vast majority of the scorch marks that covered the field.
The teams were evenly split with Draygo, Jasu, Specs, Duino and Will forming one side while Cat, Matt, Omega, Zakk and Red were the opposition. So far it had been an even game, with Draygo’s team only slightly ahead by two goals. But Cat’s team seemed ready to pull some fresh tricks. Not to say that plenty of tricks hadn’t been pulled already. There we several craters where sticks of TNT had been tossed, and more than a few anvils had been dropped by one of the toons.
It was utter mayhem and most of the players were having a blast. Of course some of the less, aggressive, players were finding themselves spending more time avoiding the opponents rather than actually trying to score. Which given the characters was probably a wise move. After all, they’d hired a medic tent for a reason. Already three people had needed to be carried into the white cloth tent and it looked like many more were soon to follow. Thankfully their toon constitutions allowed them to recover almost instantly when taken out of sight. Thus they were always read for the next round.
A whistle was blown and Cat kicked the ball hard before leaning up against one of the goal posts, yawning before closing his eyes, already out of it and bored with the game. If one were honest Cat and Omega were all but useless to the team. Cat being too lazy do anything and Omega was just outright useless. Every time he so much as touched the ball he seemed to fall over, or somehow kicked it and once broke his toe, claiming the ball was made of concrete. Of course someone else had been able to simply lift it up with one hand. Nothing was wrong with the ball, Omega was just pitifully weak.
Thankfully Matt’s physical prowess, Red’s ability to breathe fire and Zakk’s shapeshifting managed to keep them in the game. The lion was passed the ball by the goalie, dribbling it easily as he looked up at the approaching team, Will and Specs were running towards him while the overweight bat thomped behind them, slower but unstoppable when he got moving. Duino made a beeline for Omega, a soccer ball decorated cream pie in hand, no doubt revenge for a “tackle” that involved a dropped piano.
Feinting left then kicking the ball to the right towards Jasu Matt easily sprinted between the wolf and fox, who blinked as the lion pushed past them, sending them stumbling back. A surprised Jasu looked down past his broad stomach as he suddenly found the ball in front of him. And just as suddenly it was gone, Matt having slid to kick it before the bully could do much more than blink. Zakk had run past the otherwise distracted Duino and intercepted his teammates pass, looking back to see Specs and Will in pursuit. The grey furred wolf had taken out a mallet from somewhere or another, and was running at full speed with it raised above his head.
But they were unlikely to catch up. So all that had to be dealt with was the goalie, Draygo. The wolf-dragon hybrid smiled wide at the oncoming tanuki using his own shapeshifting abilities to form his hands into large mitts akin to those a baseball player may wear. He was ready to block, and would be a tough blocker to get past at that.
The tanuki reared back his foot and kicked hard, sending the ball shooting toward the goal. But it was off, not going in or missing but hitting the top of the goal net and sailing upwards. Right back to the tanuki. Springing upwards he kicked it again in midair, though once gain it missed, rebounding away with a jeering hiss from the bat and wolf. Of course it went right towards Matt who had gotten himself to the other side of the goal, kicking it in before Draygo could even get to that side and raise his oversized hands.
Letting out a cheer Zakk threw his arms up into the air, just as a mallet came down on him with a satisfying squish. Will grinned wide as he lifted the mallet up to reveal a disced tanuki, his eyes blinking rapidly. “Whoops, sorry, thought you still had the ball.” Will chuckled, stepping on the tanuki as he hefted the mallet over his shoulder. Of course he wasn’t done. The “tackle” had been one thing but he still saw a little fun to be had. He bent down to pick the flattened shapeshifter up then tossed him Frisbee style back to their team’s side of the field, landing there with a weak thwap.
The ball was brought back to the middle of the field and Matt and Jasu stepped up, ready to go for it. Usually they’d wait till the medic had run on the playing field and snatched up any of the hurt players to have them restored in the tent. But Zakk was the exception, only needing a few seconds to pull himself back into shape. When he finally re-inflated himself he waved to the medic/referee.
The referee, Richie, was sitting at the side of the field, just waiting for anyone to need his assistance. The lion nekoboy had been dragged here by Draygo and Zakk. Once he saw who was playing he’d promptly refused to play. Which in all fairness was probably a pretty damn smart move. So instead he’d been given a whistle and a stretcher. Of course the referee side of things was pretty non-existent, there weren’t many rules to enforce; the players were able to use pretty much anything they wanted to win. And that’s what everyone did, with relish.
With everyone in place Richie raised the whistle to his mouth. As the sharp noise rang out Jasu wobbled into motion. He pulled of all things a large baseball bat from his hammerspace, swinging it hard at Matt. It connected with a crack, the lion going down hard with a trio of birds flying around his head, a large lump growing from his head.
“Wrong game Jasu!” Zakk growled, running to intercept Jasu as he ran with the ball. Specs was moving to block the tanuki, Red moved upfield in case an opportunity came up. Meanwhile Will had gotten his mallet out and getting into position near Omega, giving the blue furred coyote a threatening look.
Moving much faster than Jasu could the fox Specs got in front of Zakk before he could get within stealing distance. The shorter jumper clad vulpine stood his ground, arms open and ready to move from side to side, keeping Zakk from passing him. And that would have been well and good if Zakk hadn't formed a lawnroller from his arms, pushing it ahead of him.
“No fair!” Yelped Specs as he turned and tried to run, his feet a blur of motion. But he just did a short burnout before Zakk literally steamrolled over him, flattening the poor fox onto the grass with a soft squishing noise and a whimper. As the tanuki passed on Specs was left a pained looking 2D fox pressed into the grass, several pawprints on his body where Zakk had tramped over him.
Jasu saw the shapeshifter coming and grinned wide as he kicked the ball over Zakk’s head, turning to face him. Watching the ball arc over him the shapeshifter missed Jasu stomping up and raising his left foot, bringing the sneakered paw down on Zakk hard, making a squelch sound and completely flattening him.
The ball meanwhile landed just in front of Omega who looked stunned for a moment that it had actually come to him. Before the shadow of Will loomed over him; letting out a menacing chuckle. With a soft whimper the coyote looked up in time to see the mallet come down on him with a thunk, driving Omega into the ground like a nail, only his head still above the grass, stars spinning around him.
Tossing the mallet aside Will went for the ball, running towards the goal net where Cat stood there casually, not really paying attention, just fiddling with a ball of twine he’d gotten from somewhere. That was until he noticed Will coming towards him. Tossing the ball aside and giving a soft sigh he made a half-hearted move to block.
But of course Will wasn’t going to make it that easy. In fact he chose to make it decidedly painful. He kicked the ball over towards Jasu, who was rampaging downfield. As he stomped towards the ball glimpses of a tanuki stuck to the underside of his shoe could be caught, smushed up and worked into the tread of his sneaker.
Coming to the ball Jasu reared his foot back and kicked it with his considerable might. Cat barely had time to blink and turn when the soccerball came at him more like a cannonball, hitting him hard in the chest and sending him and the ball flying back into the net. The ball stopped as it hit the net, but Cat wasn’t so lucky. The toon feline went straight through it, slamming into the shed behind the goal and coming apart into dozens and dozens of cubes, sliced apart by being pushed through the cheese cutter of a net. A pair of eyes blinked in shock from two different places, looking in two different directions.
The whistle was once again blown and Richie got up from his seat, sighing as he began to walk around the field to pick up the KO’d toons. Though to save time Richie rolled the flattened specs up like a poster and held him in one hand while he dragged the unconscious Matt into the tent. He then had to yank Omega from the ground, tugging him by his ears until the yote popped out like a cork, whimpering softly as he got up and pushed the large lump that the hammer blow had cause back in. Cat was a little trickier. After several failed attempts to pick up more than a dozen Catblocks at any time Richie huffed and emptied a garbage bin, just tossing the chunks of Cat into it and taking him to the medic tent.
“Well, that’s everyone…” He sighed, brushing his hands together. “Oh, wait, no. Where’s Zakk?” Richie asked as a restored Matt, Specs and Cat stumbled out of the tent.
“Screeeee! Oh right, I got the runt.” Jasu chortled as he roughly wiped his sneaker on the grass, leaving a brown smear there that let out a soft whimper before it pulled itself together, forming into a very battered looking tanuki.
“I am so going to get you for that bat….” Hissed the shapeshifter as he staggered back to his side of the field. Of course this was likely as not, but then in a game of toon soccer mostly anything could happen. That was the point.
Everyone got into their positions again, this time Specs was playing point for his team while Matt kept his place up front. They eyed each other off for a moment before the whistle blew, Specs making a slide for the ball right of the mark. But a large paw stomped in front of his kick, stopping it cold. Specs looked up with large eyes as a hand came down towards him, the lion grinning wide as he effortlessly lifted the little fox up. He grabbed hold of the vulpine’s legs and neck, stretching him out easily between them, then knotting the little fox again and again until he was a small tied up ball, which was then discarded, tossed over Matt’s shoulder as he turned his attention to the ball and the approaching Jasu and Will.
Will got there first of course, charging straight on at the lion. Seeing it coming Matt placed a hand on his forehead then roughly slammed it down, squashing Wil easily, laughing as the wolf sprang back up like an accordion when Matt let him go and kicked the ball, trying to circle around Jasu.
Omega meanwhile was working on his notepad, complex and foolproof strategies being scrawled down rapidly. “Perfect, I’ll be unstoppable. I just have to get the ball now.” He yelped in surprise as he felt something brush up against his footpaw. Slowly lowering the notepad he had raised like a shield Omega cried out in triumph as he saw none other than the ball sitting right in front of him. And no one was around! Everyone was on the far side of the field.
This was it! This was his moment of glory! Where he’d prove his superiority to all the other cretins on the field. He kicked the ball towards the goal, keeping it close, watching out for anyone come to steal his time in the spotlight. Sadly it was only when he saw the fuse disappearing into the sphere did he realize it was a bomb.
The wolf disappeared in a mushroom cloud as the explosive went off, a certain golden king duck hiding behind a tree the most likely culprit, snickering behind his hand. It was payback of course for an incident earlier that had left him plastered to the underside of an anvil. As the smoke cleared a stunned looking and very much charred coyote lay flat on his back, out cold.
Of course the explosion had grabbed everyone else’s attention for a moment, drawing them away from their constant attempt to get the ball from one another. Jasu was the first to come back to the game at hand, looking at the smaller, speedier Matt try to get past him, fainting left and right. And Jasu was obviously getting tired of this, simply getting his hands under the grass and yanking it hard like a rug, lifting Matt off his feet and onto his backside.
By the time he looked up Jasu was on him, literally. The bat bellyflopped onto Matt, coming down with an earthshaking slam. Grunting and getting to his feet Jasu screeched happily as he peeled the flattened Matt from his broad tummy then scrunched him up like paper and tossed him aside to go for the ball.
By this time the only real players on the field were Jasu, Zakk and Red, who had run too far upfield to be able to help Matt much. But that didn’t stop him from lowering his head and sprinting full tilt to catch up to the wobbling along Jasu, who was almost in kicking distance of the goal. And after his last experience with the bat’s strength Cat had hidden behind the net, curled up protectively which most people probably would have done in his position.
Well that just meant the dragon had to stop it from going through. He easily managed to catch up to Jasu, even getting ahead of him. But not before the bat stopped to rear back his sneaker, going for another of those killer kicks.
Not even bothering to try and stop Jasu Red snaked his tail around the bat’s neck and pulled back hard, sending the bat tumbling backwards and landing with a thump. But he was only down for a second before Red was ontop of him, jumping on his stomach again and again, stomping down hard and flattening his gut a little with each impact.
It only took a few good stomps before there was a rather large sheet of bat on the field. But Red kept stomping, kept trampling and kept grinding his paws into Jasu’s body and then his face. In fact he seemed to have no interest in stopping, roaring to himself happily, his scruff of black hair bobbing up and down.
So Zakk jogged past, giving him a high five as he took the ball and all but strolled up the field. Specs was still tangled into a rather uncomfortable looking ball of knots, Will was an accordion still, bouncing up and down weekly. And Matt was still scrunched up into a wad of paper.
Drago was ready for him though, having those oversized mitts ready and waiting. Of course the tanuki wasn’t likely to make it that easy. Instead of kicking the ball he lifted it up with a flick of a reshaped tail, dropping it into his mouth as he dropped to all fours, shifting himself into a cannon.
The hybrid wolf dragon didn’t have time to dodge as the ball was fired at him, hitting him full on in the chest and stretching it back out like playdough, knocking him from his feet in the process. It was a goal, getting them closer to victory.
With the casualty rate so much higher this time it took Richie a little longer to gather up the toons that needed restoring. Red had to be positively pushed off Jasu, who’d worked the bat into a paw patterned smear by this point, the bat not looking impressed in the slightest as his body reeking of Red’s paws was folded up and walked off field with a compressed down Will and the balled up Matt and Specs. Omega and Draygo just needed some time to come two and reform, ready if a little woozy by the time every one else was back on field.
This time it was will and Red up front. The wolf gave the dragon a rather nervous look. So far Red had shown an almost over the top enthusiasm for squishing others, the pawprints still visible on Jasu’s body proof of that. But as the whistle blew he was shocked when he managed to duck under Red’s opening grab at him and get away with the ball.
Before he’d even gotten half way to the goal there was a flash of bright red as the dragon sprinted ahead of him, getting in front and sliding to a halt. Then he did the thing that put all of them on the backfoot. He lifted his head back with a soft growling noise then exhaled a massive wall of flame. Everyone let out noises of surprise as they saw the oncoming inferno.
Will barely managed to turn before he was engulphed, Specs and Jasu also didn't have time to get out of flame radius. Omega was to far to the side to be caught in it, though Matt and Zakk weren't as lucky. Zakk let out a yelp as he saw the flame rushing towards him. He crouched down and brought his tail up and over himself, slamming it into the ground to form a shield that spread out in front of him. Seeing this new safepoint come into being Matt scrambled towards it, just managing to get behind it as flame washed on either side of them.
The inferno seemed to go on and on before finally sputtering out. The pair exchanged relieved looks before poking their heads up from behind the blackened shield. Most of the field was scorched black now. Specs, Will and Jasu stood there blinking in surprise for a few seconds before crumbling into small piles of ash where they stood, their eyes on top blinking in astonishment.
Letting out a satisfied grunt Red snorted a final lick of flame as he looked over his destructive handiwork. Then he glanced down at the ball, which was pitch black. When he leaned down to poke it the ball simply collapsed into another pile of ash, utterly destroyed.
“Whoops.” Was all he could chuckle, getting angry looked from Matt, Zakk and Draygo. Cat and Omega to relieved to have been out of the inferno range.
“Well, do we have a spare ball?” called Draygo from his place at the goal, looking over as Richie began to come get the incinerated, a dustpan and brush in hand. No they hadn’t. Which in hindsight was probably a stupid call. They really should have anticipated the ball being destroyed. And it was a miracle it hadn't been several times over already.
“Well, I do have one idea.” Chuckled Matt, giving Zakk a nudge. He pointed over to Richie who was scooping the whimpering Specs up into the dustpan then taking him back to the tent to be dropped into a bin next to it, clambering unsteadily out a moment later.
The tanuki picked up the plan on the spot, strolling over to Richie and smiling to him. “Hey, let me give you a hand.” He didn’t really bother waiting for an answer, snatching the dustpan from his hand and moving to the side as Matt pounced on the nekoboy who yelped out in surprise and was flattened in an instant.
Matt rumbled happily as he worked, squishing and folding Richie into a ball shape, pressing him tight to keep him in that form. Richie’s face blinked up at them when he was ready, his hands, feet, patches of clothes and the scruff of brown hair he sported all that was visible, as well as his tail coiled up around his backside.
“Wait! Wait! Don’t!” he all but begged to the lion, who gently booped him on the nose.
“Don’t worry, we’re nearly done, just need you to help out for a little.” He winked down at Richie and dropped him to the ground, kicking him around a few times to test if he was good for the job while Zakk hurriedly reformed the opposing team, though when he got to Jasu he had a problem. Red had begun to wipe his paws in the pile of bat ash, the toons worried looking eyes being narrowly missed by the large draconic paws.
“Oi, Red, save it for the next round.” Sighed the tanuki, shoving the dragon off, even if it risked getting him TFed to kingdom come by the scaled toon. Instead he huffed and walked off to his position on the field, one of the few scorched parts.
Scooping up Jasu and depositing him in the restoration bin Zakk sighed and rolled up sleaves that moments ago hadn’t even existed. He needed some help getting rid of the scorch marks that had blackened most of the field.
The large bat struggled to get his wide rump from the bin, finally managing it with a pop. Stamping one sneakered foot on the ground then another he grumbled to himself about the dragon who had just incinerated him. “I’m going to wash that lizard away, then pump water down his throat till he pops.” He cracked his knuckles then paused as he noticed a figure standing in the shadows of the tent, eyes alight with mischief.
“I can give you a hand with that.” The shapeshifter grinned wide, his canines sharp and glinting in the light. Raising an eyebrow Jasu took a step away.
“Whaddya mean runt? Get yer mitts away from me.” He barely got another step back before Zakk was on him, grabbing hold of him and wrestling him to the ground with surprising strength. The bat screeched out as he felt a hand slam into the side of his face, flattening it out. Another hit him, and another and another, compressing his face. It felt cylindrical, compressing him into a new shape. His body and arms were like wise reshaped with precise blows from the tanuki
As suddenly as they started the rain of blows stopped, leaving the bat blinking in confusion at what had been done to him. Little did he know that he’d been beaten into the shape of a fire hydrant. Forming a spanner Zakk placed his paw on the side of Jasu’s head, chuckling as he formed a spanner and wedged it around a nut ontop of Jasu’s head.
Truth be told he had no idea if what he was doing would work, but he yanked hard on the spanner anyway, turning it and pulling a screech of pain from the bat. Toon logic pulled through though and a flood of water poored from the bat hydrant’s mouth.
Grinning as he watched the soot and ash be washed away in place of clean, new grass Zakk waited till the field was clear and fresh before turning off the water. And hitting the complaining bat with the spanner; making it thrum for a second before the vibrating bat hydrant popped back into shape, smaller fire hydrants circling around his head. Zakk was off at a sprint before the bat could begin to mutter threats and curses.
All the players got into place, Matt grinning as he held the Richie ball in his hand, ignoring the occasional whimper or protest that the nekoball tried to emit. “play ball!” Laughed Matt, throwing the ball to specs and Red who were already up and in position.
Red was the quicker off the mark, kicking the ball through spec’s legs and grabbing him as he passed by. The little jumper clad Fox let out a weak whimper as he was hoisted up and grabbed by the dragon, who rapidly began to squish, pull and manipulate the poor fox in his hands even as he dribbled the ball.
It only too him a few seconds to squeeze and stretch out as he wanted, pulling him into a brown poncho and toss him over his head, springing down field even as he adjusted his new garment. Will and Jasu got ready to block but Matt literally tackled Will, throwing his body at him.
A tussle broke out between the two of them, the signature toon smoke cloud obscuring them, odd limbs poking out randomly as well as odd biffs and bumps. Zakk tried the same with Jasu, but the bat saw it coming and countered with a bucket, catching the tanuki with a thump, stuffing anything left of him in as well then slamming it upside down on the ground, grinning wide as he turned and sat on it, crumpling the tanuki filed bucket with a loud squishing noise.
Letting out a sound of satisfaction Will finally got the upper hand on Matt, pinning him down and pulling a rolling pin from behind his back, beginning to flatten out the lion, taking his time and enjoying himself. Red meanwhile was almost towards the goal, kicking the Richie ball who yelped and whined with each impact. Red came to a halt as he stared down Draygo, the two dragons looking into one another’s eyes. The dragon adjusted his paw on Richie’s face, covering it with the smelly foot, grinning as he felt the nekoball squirm at the odour. Red fainted left then kicked the ball hard, Richie hitting the post with a painful sounding thump and bouncing inside of the net.
Another goal for Cat’s team.
With the medic currently serving as the ball there wasn’t any single person to get the flattened or otherwise incapacitated players to the tent, thus the people who had tackled the flattened person would “Graciously” help them into the tent.
Matt was folded into a paper plane then tossed in, letting out a yep as he disappeared inside. Zakk in his cramped little bucket was unceremoniously tossed inside, oozing from cracks in the crushed metal container. Duino even wandered inside, his beak backwards and his body scorched, apparently falling foul of Omega’s plans. One even working for a change. Specs wasn’t so lucky, before tossing the fox into the tent Red had flopped himself down and proceeded to painstakingly rub the tortured looking fox along his paws, across his sweaty arcs, his heals and even began to work him between his toes before getting tired of his little game and crumpling the poor toon up and tossing him into tent.
Eventually everyone came back out good as new, or close enough. The game was tied, the scores equal. And it was starting to get late. So they decided to call last goal wins. Naturally that meant everyone got more competitive. Even Cat looked serious, for about five seconds before he just shrugged and leaned against the goal post again, gnawing on a fish skeleton.
Jasu and Matt, the two teams best players were sent up to the field. With Specs and Will on the flanks facing off against Zakk and Red respectively. Duino and Omega meanwhile were nowhere to be seen, one apparently chasing after the other somewhere nearby. The sound of anvils hitting the ground was the give away.
The whistle blew and everyone broke into motion. Will leapt at Red but only hit the ground with a thump, looking up as a large shadow loomed over him. Looking up Will let out a soft eep as Red loomed over him, letting himself fall forward and belly flop onto Will. The larger reptile’s body hit the ground and Will with a dull thud, completely covering the wolf except for his tail which stuck out from between Red’s legs.
Chortling to himself happily Red got up, just intime to see Specs being stretched out between Zakk’s arms, worked easily like dough then smashed flat into a disc and tossed away absently. Red looked down at his chest to see a grey sheet pressed to his underbelly.
Matt and Jasu were meanwhile trying to get by one another, Matt batting the Richie ball back and forth back and forth, watching the bat intently, looking for an opening. But he’d noticed his teammates being taken down, cursing to himself about his useless teammates.
And that momentarily lapse of attention was all Matt needed. He ducked behind and around jasu in a whip of brown and golden fur. Though startled Jasu staggered backwards, stepping on Matt’s tail as he passed and making the lion roar in pain, that roar was abruptly cut short as the bat fell on his massive rump with a loud squishing noise.
Cursing and screeching in irritation Jasu managed to get himself to his feet as Zakk jogged over. “Don’t tell me you busted our other ball.” He grumbled as he tried to find the ball. He saw Matt imprinted into the butt cheek shaped crater the bat had made, but no Richie ball.
Acting on a hunch he ducked behind the bat, and finding exactly what he was looking for. A rather upset little disc of flattened nekoboy, but only the backside of Richie was visible. Which meant his face was crammed tightly into the bat’s rear end, not pleasant to say the least.
Moving gingerly Zakk reached forward and peeled Richie from the bat’s rump, making him screech out in surprise. Giving the neko a firm yank he came free, a rather sad face looked back at him as he flipped Richie around.
“You okay?” He asked gently, getting a pained whimper in reply. “I’ll take that as a yes.” Piped the tanuki cheerfully. He extended his tail and thinned it out until it was a needle pointed nozzle like those you’d see on any pump. Stuffing it into Richie’s mouth Zakk chuckled and turned his right forearm into a pump, waggling his eyebrows cartoonishly as he dropped Richie to the ground and gave him a few good bursts of air. But the mischievous tanuki only gave him enough to get him into a spherical shape, just short of being re-inflated into his normal shape.
The poor neko gave Zakk and Jasu a pitiful, mewl as the nozzle was yanked out of his mouth and he was dropped to the ground again. His time as the ball wasn’t over just yet. With the “Ball” restored Jasu pulled from his pants a large mallet, grinning wide as he lifted it over his head, fully intent on flattening another member of the opposing team.
With a grunt of exertion the bat brought it down hard, taking Zakk completely by surprise as he was reforming himself. The shapeshifter didn't stand a chance to the bat’s tremendous strength, splattering all over the mallet and the grass.
Tossing the nuki splattered mallet Jasu kicked the ball downfield and began to run after it, laughing in triumph as he stepped in part of Zakk and squished it under his sneaker tread. Jasu was on the charge again, with the only other player on the field being Red, Cat an almost non competitor, especially for Jasu who had already cubed the cat once.
But Red wasn’t exactly ready to take this one sitting down. He sprinted forwards as fast as he could, “tackling” jasu by swinging an oversized rolling pin at his head. Jasu went down hard, screeching once before the rolling pin was slammed down on his tummy and roughly rolled forward up his body.
With only a little backwards and forwards rolling the bat was flattened out against the ground, looking up at Red with a dazed expression. Only taking a few seconds to wipe his feet on the flat bat Red looked over at the whimpering Richie ball and kicked him upfield, chasing after him as he homed in on the goal.
It was all up to Draygo now. His whole team had been taken out of action and Red was coming towards him fast, stomping then kicking the ball hard. Richie let out a highpitched yelp as he was kicked so hard, rocketing towards Draygo who tried to expand his hands again to catch the ball. But despite expanding his hands and blocking the hybrid took it full in the face, somersaulting backwards by the force of the impact. Ball and dragon hit the ground at the same time, one out cold the other whimpering softly with a large pawprint blazing red against his cheek.
That was game! Cat’s team had one!
Of course Red was the only person still standing to enjoy the fact, Cat haven at some point or another fallen asleep against the goal post, a trail of Zs floating up from his mouth. Zakk was the first of the wounded to recover, and after shaking his head and being hugged by the roaring dragon he began to take everyone else to the restoration tent. Of course when he came to Draygo and the neko ball he paused. Well it was traditional for the ball to go home with the winning team, and he was certain he could have some fun with the neko who even now was giving him a worried look.
“Zakk, you can reform me now. Zakk?” He whimpered as he was lifted up by the tanuki and tossed to a tail turned hand which held him tightly as Draygo was taken to the tent to recover from the impact that had knocked him out.
“Oh hush now. You’re gonna come home with me, maybe I should mount you on my mantle?” The shapeshifter joked as he said his goodbyes to those he knew, walking homeward. Curiously he found Omega along the way, tied to a tree trunk and covered with eggs. Probably best to leave him.
Besides, it wasn't like he needed another toy to play with, he had his own little ball boy to mess with for the evening. Grinning Zakk looked back at Richie, still held in the grip of his tail hand, which occasional bounced him on the ground much like a basket ball.
Yeah, he was going to have a lot of fun with the neko boy.
