Yea that's always in the back of my mind too. I do have square so I can hop on that. Other options too so at least there's that.

Why do you not have an ID or DL ?

A business license isn't the same thing as a driver's license or state ID. If you're self employed/freelance you don't...exactly have a business license. However most artists NEED a business Paypal account or you can only earn 500 a year.

And yeah now that I check the screencap it said business license. I read the journal mentioning a license and was confused.

No worries! That's what's kinda concerning because...we're not a 'real' business as freelance. Same as if you just were to resell stuff on eBay. You got tax forms but not really a 'license'. Not sure how they can prove they're a 'business' if it's...not really one :c

Oh I know. EINs are practically free. They're used to pay your taxes anyway OR Choose to be a Sole proprietor where I use my SS number to act as my EIN and pay those same taxes. I had paypal LONG before they split Personal and Business. and verifications forced me to use my SS number to have a Business account. I kept my records simple and clean. So let's see if it works at all.

I hope it does! Have had a US business account since around 2012 in good standings, but outside of the ID forms/Social Security I don't have anything else. Maybe this is my sign to leave PP.

I would honestly suggest calling paypal as well. Their customer service can be pretty helpful (in my experience, i know its different for everyone)
But they've helped me through several mishaps in the past with little issue.

Sweetburn uses Stripe. It's worked out well.

Stripe is a good alternate. Ive heard good things about it from a lot of artist friends

Im not the OP, but sometimes, even when you mark that the items aren't going to be shipped, Paypal weirds out and demands a shipping company/tracking number even when you select "Order Processed." I had this happen on three different resales over the last month and a half or so; it's super frustrating. It's worked the last two times without issue. This happened one other time in the past as well.

I've heard some good stuff about stripe but haven't used it yet myself. Might be worth looking into.

Square's worked great for me for about a year now, as an artist, and I've never had issues with it as a customer either (compared to Boosty which simply will NOT function for me)! I'm sorry this happened to you though.

Yeah, Paypal is a massive corporate scumbag that none of us should ever have turned to but we all did. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I don't know the current status of this, but a while back Western Union was negotiating with Interac to create some sort of North American electronic money transfer service. It isn't/won't be/wasn't a global service, but it's something, and if it follows Interac's basic mode of operation you wouldn't need a separate account from your bank account to use it. It moves money rather than hoarding it and saying that you can have it back if they feel like it.

Western Union is one of the favorite service used by scammers because they hardly do any verification at all. So I would strongly advise against using Western Union for anything.
