Back from Holidays
Hi!
Hope everyone had a great holiday and a Happy New Year!
I'm back home and I'm easing myself back into my usual art routine.
For the past while I've been feeling a bit disconnected from my work. I've not really felt satisfied with it and it doesn't really feel like "me" but then I'm not sure what "me" is. It's hard to put into words. Its not a big deal though, its not burnout or anything, I still want to draw. But I think I need to step back and think about the direction I want to go in, maybe spend some time doing studies of things I like, experiment, go back to traditional for a while.
I don't want this to come off as whiny cause I'm genuinely looking forward to these things! But my posting might be a bit irregular and I'll be closing commissions for a while.
Also, I got new pet rats! Four adorable boys! They are quite skittish at the moment, I only got them on Tuesday. So I'll be trying to get them used to me for a while. Maybe I'll draw them once I figure out names for them all!

Rodents can be endearing and affectionate little beasties, something I hadn't anticipated before my first introduction; a friend at university had a white rat and a boa who accidentally got acquainted when the rat figured out how to unlatch his cage while everyone was off in class, and my friend returned to find them nestled cozily together. Fortunately the boa refused live food, so Rat was a warm comfy thing. After that, my friend's general warning to anyone visiting was to always check the couch cushions before sitting in case a small someone was lurking therein, and was how I first met his rat. And the little fellow cheerfully accepted me as his newest friend without hesitation and groomed my hand for me. Later, when I was doing wildlife rehab, I wound up with a baby squirrel, and despite my best efforts to maintain proper separation to prevent imprinting, the little fellow wasn't having any of it and adopted me as Mom. I eventually gave up trying, since it was clearly pointless, and it spent a lot of time sleeping in my shirt pocket or my hair as I raised it.
I also want to experiment and practice with backgrounds, what rendering style will be more efficient/look nice, what will look good in a composition with characters, that sort of thing.
Traditional ink is something I want to play with more too.
Oh dear, lucky rat! I did have two boys as a teen, they were lovely!
Aw that must have been adorable, I'm guessing the squirrel wasn't really able to be released?
