I'm feeling less and less motivated to draw each day. I read Teranen's journal a while ago here in FA and I agreed with a lot of stuff in it. About AI.
It just feels pointless to draw at this point when AI slop is being made more and more and slowly it's getting better and better, making it more difficult to recognize each day. I'm a slow artist. I might take up to a month working on a single piece, because I want to fix all anatomy errors or anything other that looks wonky or weird in my eye. A person generating AI images can make 300 pics in a couple of hours (or less, depending whether their quality standards are high or not).
There are also plenty of people generating AI content on Patreon and making hundreds, some even thousands of dollars per month. Imagine, fucking IMAGINE, paying to see AI generated slop which you could find online for free. But I guess that's where we're at. People with zero understanding what it takes to create a piece of art just want mindless, endless porn on their eyes, no matter the quality, as long as it's a couple hundred AI pics a month..
It's also super disheartening seeing so so SO many "artists" on this site alone, who sell YCH works which are clearly traced off of an AI image, who make easy 100$ per such work when people don't see/recognize it's a traced slop. Usually the finished works have very wonky linearts and horrible shading/coloring, sometimes even clearly blurred AI background on it. Yet people don't see it or *care*. I've noticed it's a lot easier for us artists to recognize if some noob is tracing AI, but for non-artists it's more difficult.
I contacted the FA staff of a one individual on this site who does this, who clearly, poorly, traces AI images and sells these as original YCH's (one of the images even has a male character with 6 fingers lol). Unfortunately, there's nothing the staff can do. They don't
a) accept 3rd party notices of traced images
b) they do side with the artist in unclear situations.
So even for them it's totally OK, when even a blind person could see what the "artist" is doing. So basically I should find the original AI image first, contact whoever made it, and ask *them* to ask FA staff to remove the traced works. But... what if the "artist" in question is generating those AI images themselves and then tracing them? Especially if they are using an AI that let's you create private galleries, there's ZERO chance of them ever getting caught.
Yeah it's just.... I dunno man. I'm tired. Angry. Frustrated.
I'll try to get back on my feet and back to drawing. It's... difficult. I'm sorry about this. Just wanted to let you guys know what's going on in my head atm and why I haven't posted any new art in over a month. I already have plenty of unfinished sketches waiting for me to finish them. I'll get back to arting slowly, trying not to let all this AI shit get to me.. :')

It always feels fake, especially when you know it wasn't actually drawn.. and worse than some people on FA are pushing art by AI and selling it as their own.. It just shows how much of a fraud some people are and how fraudulent AI art is. It's disgusting.
Actual artists (like you) deserve a lot more attention instead of AI..
I personally tinker with AI occasionally when trying to think up new characters for my stories or RPs but I never post any and if I do want to bring them to light I will give the actual artist that I want to draw them the reference materials I gathered and then after I get an actual piece of art I toss the AI in the trash and then stick with real artists for more artwork. 0w0
But yeah AI art and adopts over on DA is running crazy and I hate it. I would much rather someone put some actual effort into an adopt other than typing out some words and then a machine spits out "art". :/ it feels completely disrespectful to me.
The fact that Deviantart allows AI art and certain people on FA doing adopts made from AI here is insane. There's always gonna be something off when it comes to something AI made... it doesn't have the passion for the feeling that you get from an actual artist making it. It's like you said, disrespectful..

It upsets me at just how abused, bastardized, & broken AI tools have become by those wishing to discredit, "challenge", and "make easy" what artist like you guys put dedication, education, hardwork, and passion to do for your clients and or yourselves.
For me, anyone that uses AI other then to get a concept base or idea off the ground (the initial 1st/2nd use) and justify using AI (basically art thief & environmentally harming programs now) on a regular profit generating "drawing alternative" basis get a block from me. It's just gross...
Please don't give up or stop drawing, even if AI is slowly getting better. It's only cuz AI generators/sites feed on actual artist hard work are they even striving as much as they have been. I'd 1000% pick an actual artist like you and many others over the AI shit, cuz there is so much more passion and soul in the work you provide. Not only that, I always get excited and jittery when I get WIPs and hear from artist just how much fun they are having drawing out my commission. That is not an experience either of use get from AI tools and AI genners.
There will be more and more regulations soon, if not, the death of generative AI. I am hopeful. I understand the uneasiness, but your art is so wonderful and unique and AI will always be souless
