We have a gift for all of you! Journal ratings are live—you can now rate the content of your journals the same as you would submissions. Please keep in mind that while we’ve added ratings to journals, they must still follow the same rules outlined in our Content Rating Policies and are still subject to the Code of Conduct. This is just another way to give people a heads up for content in journals. All journals posted previously on your accounts will by default have a [G] General rating on them.
FAQ
Q: What happened to links? They aren't working!
A: We are aware that links not enclosed in the |url| BBCode are not working as intended.
Our techs are actively working on resolving this issue, we hope to have this addressed by the end of today (11/29/2025 PST).
We hope everyone got to enjoy their feast! Reminder to be excellent to each other ❤️

FA+

Did you have a hand in this, somehow?
Not really beyond helping tech with testing - I made two test journals in my account beforehand, then deleted them. ^.=.^
Also we caught and fixed one smol bug before it was pushed to live!
(But also yay new feature!)
Also TWEWY - great choice for a favorite game! Has one of my favorite villains of all-time. ^.=.^
If you don't know who it is, then you're soooo zetta-slow!
(Finding another twewy fan in the wild feels unreal tbh so happy to meet you bro!)
I thought after NEO they were done!
apologies, having an honestly awful day
As for journals, when we say they have to follow our rules they should be:
- Rated appropriately
- Must not break our Code of Conduct
- Must not break our Terms of Service
While it is cliche to tell you to review our policies, we do suggest you do so and decide if you need to remove or modify anything that we cannot host.
If you have any specific journals that you are worried about, you can ask us to review individual journals without penalty to you. We would much rather work with individuals than bonk and remove things. :)
(afeared gulp)
BEEEEEG INBOX
And I do like the new QoL improvement to the journals, plus seeing the new ratings in the notifications is a great touch!
Must ask though, how will older journals get rated? Especially for unused accounts?
Well done! Time to stay cozy and warm.
Loving the tag blocking you implemented btw. It's a bit of work but it's made it easier to spot art that caters to my interests.
An update to the BBCode system had to be made, and it had some edge case impacts; tech's already on it and hopes to have a fix done very soon.
Sorry about that!
On this topic, who would we contact if we're still noticing additional issues with the BBCode? In particular the quote function, color not working correctly, and a ★ symbol disappearing. Thank you.
https://www.furaffinity.net/control.....s/?issuetype=6
All my non-url-blocked links on every post seem to be... uhh... not links anymore. The line generated by a bunch of - in a row also seems to have multiplied a bunch!
Tech's already on it and hopes to have a fix very soon (like, an hour or so).
Sorry about that!!
"We've addressed the issue. Feel free to report any further BBCode regressions as we wait for the dust to settle."
You should be good to go! :3
Fixes should be in place over the next few days as we test and address any gaps due to the new system, so these regressions should be solved soon! Thank you for your patience.
Thank (y)
Not trying to be difficult, I think journal ratings definitely are something super important. Just want to see the viewpoint on things like that to make sure acceptability and what is considered okay is the same in journals as ob profile pages etc. so it makes sense! Thank you for any clarity~
I would advise to review your journals; technically, all journals until now had to be rated "General", as per our Code of Conduct.
With the new system that follows the Ratings Upload Policy, we are providing more flexibility that wasn't present before.
I understand that it sucks to go back, but better safe than sorry! :3
To reproduce:
1. Access gallery page https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....alous-furball/
2. Click on any story post.
3. Error occurs in the container window instead of the story text. Story text does not display.
I posted a story earlier today at 4:30 and it displayed normally and now they're *all* throwing the same error. I have submitted a trouble ticket.
The journal rating feature is lovely, good job!
This would be treated like a reminder; as per our 2.1 Reminders Upload Policy, the reminder's rating must match the highest content rating of the submission(s) being promoted.
As such, your reminder journal would have to also be rated Mature/Adult.
I hope this helps!
Also, I've just noticed that text formatting in posts has broken, links are no longer working too D:
I've forwarded it to the Tech team; they will need a bit of time to look into what's going on.
Hopefully, that'll be resolved soon.
I was wondering; would it be possible to add a feature where the blacklisted tag is shown on hidden submissions when you hover your mouse pointer over the submission? So you don't have to go to the submission page to see why it is blacklisted.
Edit: Or possibly include an option to remove the blacklisted submissions from view altogether so it doesn't clog up the user's feed.
Part of the next step for tag blocking is to allow between blurring or simply not showing the submission.
We don't have an ETA at this time for this update, but it is being worked on. :3
Hiii Rednef ❤️🌸
And sweet! this is a really nice Black Friday deal 🥰
LOVE THIS BANNER GAHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAA
This is being investigated by the Tech team right now. It's not really intended behaviour...
Sorry about that!
Thanks for the update!
how did those get reverted fml
thank you for the heads up
I tried adding one to my cart with another shirt and it was still showing as full price.
What are weighted campaigns? I don't see any mentioning of that on the advertising page.
Example: you have two campaigns. Both are base weight, so they have a 50% chance of pulling.
One gets weighted to 2. Now that weighted campaign has a 66% chance of showing while the other has a pull of 33%.
My page suddenly has [/color] [/b] and [/i] , and links no longer work… but no one else’s pages appear to be having the same issue.
Has there been a new code update or something?
Ex: some of of my coding was like center b /center /b
( /b has to come before / Center due to the way its placed)
Not sure why this is only happening now tho,
RAAAAAAAH! My pretty orange colors disappeared :(
Meanwhile we've got artists that have X-rated banners featuring X-rated acts and bodily fluids, but that's fine as long as they're popular I guess.
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11259501/
Maybe the link too? I've been playing around with how to advertise my shop. 🤔
I might grab some adds. 💙
Yes, we do permit you to change out creatives/ links during your campaign. We just ask you keep it to a reasonable frequency.
(Seems the desktop retro version on mobile actually looks decent now! Gonna try to be more open to it, did not like the new UI before when I tried)
If there's any buttons, features, preferences, etc., that you really actually want on Modern and can't live without, we will happily collect them as feedback. Chances are, there may be something we can do to add them on over if they're still missing at this point, and we've already gotten a few from others here in the comment section :3
I have a kaiju package running indefinitely, and I would like to take advantage of the ad offer, even though it is not time for me to renew my plan.
as a permanent customer I believe this is only fair.
We do not require your campaign to be over before you are allowed to renew it. You may fill out the advertiser intake form at any time or email us so I can send it over.
We do not have permanent/ lifetime slots available, but you are welcome to grab multi-years.
Ordered List example (I'll replace "[" and "]" with "{" and "}" so you can see what it looks like under the hood):
{ol}
{li}Item one{/li}
{li}Item two{/li}
{/ol}
Unordered List Example:
{ul}
{li}Item one{/li}
{li}Item two{/li}
{/ul}
Thanks for the reply :3
It's easy to compensate for text size using Firefox, but all the modern theme colors are unreadable for me. Any time I try to read bright text on a dark background, my eyes dilate to allow more light in, which causes the lighter test to blur from being overly bright. It becomes unreadable. With the modern themes, the all have a dark background, except for modern light. Unfortunately they choose to use the brightest possible pure white for the background, which cause me pain, in same same way that looking at car headlights would - so that's unreadable too.
All I ask is that someone make a modern theme, using the color palette of classic light. That uses a bluish-gray background that is 15-20 percent darker that pure white, so it doesn't cause the pain. Without that, I'll likely be forced to no longer use FA, if classic is ever discontinued. Dragoneer said he was working on that around to and a half years ago, but I was one of many dozens of things he hoped to get done that never quite got done he simply didn't have enough time for. He did make a modern retro theme, but only for the dark, and so many other things had a bit higher priority for the site at the time. Now, with classic eventually being removed without a suitable modern replacement, I'll be locked out of being able to use my favorite site, because it simply won't be accessible for me. It's not a matter of preference. It's a matter of need, in my case.
I could get used to the rest of Modern in time, but it's impossible to use at all without some options for Light mode background colors.
(Also not being able to use any new site features because of accessibility oversights sucks more than a little.)
I fully understand that adding new features to classic requires constantly changing and adding new code to classic. That's okay for now, since the basic features on FA are likely to keep working in classic for a while, even though new features won't happen.
On the other hand, there really is no reason to force new pages like the "banner museum", "change log" and "wall-o-awesome" to be non accessible to users, simply because they are still using classic. FA can just link to them without doing the extra theme check. Instead, they do a check to see if a user is still on classic, just to display a "doesn't work in classic" message - even though nothing on those new pages actually requires modern. To prove it, I simply opened FA in a private tab, (not logged in), to display the new pages, copied the page source and images from each to my drive, bypassed the check for classic, switched back to my logged in classic window and linked to the downloaded pages from my own profile page. They displayed perfectly. In other words, they are all fully compatible with classic, but FA added extra unneeded code to show a "can't display" message to classic users! Why do that - except to try and force users to switch to modern?
Unfortunately, several users simply can't switch to any of the current modern themes, due to various visual disabilities, like photophobia, or issues caused by albinism, so it's an accessibility issue. The solution, for many of us, is if FA simply used the same palette as the classic light theme, for a new modern light theme. That would allow me, and hopefully other users, to switch right now. Otherwise, keeping classic light is the only way I can continue to use the site, even if it means not having access to new and desired features.
Did this update break this by accident?
I have a comic uploaded here that's more than 200 pages long and it relied on the urls being clickable. Do I have to go back and reformat every page?
I also put in a ticket. I'll close it.
Also, again, the links aren't clickable so it's not like I can touch them. Unless you're telling me not to edit them, in which case sure thing!
EDIT: Devs are aware.
Two years ago, I wrote a journal in Chinese (and in some parts, such as when citing content from Wikipedia, I used English). The content was mostly about complaining that the changes to AUP 2.7 at that time were unreasonable. Now, I've noticed that the latter part of that journal can no longer be viewed normally (it was cut in the middle, but the remaining part can be seen on the edit page).
In UTF-8 encoding, some characters take up multiple bytes (for example, Greek and Cyrillic letters take up two bytes; Kana, Chinese characters, full-width punctuation marks, and some Hangul (Hangul symbols formed by combining OpenType features may take up to 9 bytes) take up three bytes; and emojis take up four bytes). If the maximum display character count is set based on bytes, the actual maximum input character count for the characters mentioned above that take up multiple bytes will be halved (the remaining part beyond the maximum byte count will be truncated and cannot be displayed).
This problem does not affect regular Latin letters (A-z) as they only take up one byte. However, it is very unfair to users of other languages; assuming that a maximum of 255 characters (counted by character quantity) can be input but in reality a maximum of 255 bytes can be displayed, a text consisting entirely of Chinese characters and full-width punctuation marks and reaching the maximum input character count (255 characters) would have 170 characters unable to be displayed properly.
Also, does this mean we have to set the rating of every single journal we post now??
Fatal System Error!
Internal server error.
(no im joking i love the banner)
Maybe you should prioritize fixing your site before focusing on the optional "for fun" stuff.
Can you like. Not set features up like that? Thanks.
You'd think "confirm this change" and "if it requires entering your password to change it back we probably shouldn't make it an instant change" would be pretty simple stuff. I expected it to show a preview, or go to a page with a different URL like "old.reddit.com", or something...logical. Not just uproot the appearance of the site and say "good luck fixing it I guess"
I’ve already tried your garbage modern theme that you’re slowly making worse and worse. I have no interest in your disgusting mess of modern UI. If you want me to switch willingly, the solution is simple. Do better. Far-fetched concept, I know.
If you have any feedback to improve our modern theme, please feel free to cut us a ticket with the link below:
https://www.furaffinity.net/control...../?issuetype=38
Thank you!
"Okay, grandma, we don't care what you have to say, let's get you out of the public eye."
Unfortunately, if classic light is discontinued, without a usable replacement, I will then be forced off of FA. Saying that day is coming soon is very concerning for me, as it's not like I can swap out my optic nerves for new ones! I know it's unlikely that the needs of so few users are unlikely to get high priority, but something like dimming down the intense white background of the modern light theme could be enough. Or, just copy the color palette from classic light over to modern light. then I can switch to modern.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so compelled to submit feedback as I was after accidentally “trying” the modern UI.
I do see some good elements and with some more refinement it might be worth the switch, but the old layout needs to stay until then.
1: The thumbnails for navigating to the previous/next 3 submissions need to be added back.
2: The stupidly enormous buttons and other UI elements need to be reduced (or able to be resized).
3: The site needs to display the desktop version when requested.
The forcing of the mobile UI on tablets might be the actual problem. Tablets are supposed to be served the desktop UI. But even if the website defaults to mobile, the “request desktop website” option NEEDS to be respected.
I'm not from the Tech department, but they are very interested in hearing what keeps folks tied to Classic! I suggest opening a Trouble Ticket with your feedback so they can continue collecting this information:
https://www.furaffinity.net/control.....roubletickets/
Now that we can preview the new design I think there’s going to be a lot more feedback. I’ll personally try it for a little while to see if I notice any other big problems.
But I also have to add at least one positive. The inline document viewer is nice.
The classic light theme is wonderful, because the background color is around 15 to 20 percent darker than pure with, while still allowing the the text to be even darker. It's purely a physical accessibility issue for some of us with photophobia many with albinism. If classic light is ever removed, I'll be effectively locked out of using FA, which would really suck. Something like Modern Retro (Light), using classic light's colors, with allow me to make the switch to modern. Otherwise, both of my FA+ accounts would be pointless to continue, after classic goes away. I simply wouldn't be able to see the site any more.
Here are some obvious ones:
- Dismissable news thingy covers page content. Previous design was better because it created its own space instead of obscuring.
- Header is pinned so it permanently takes up page space.
- On content pages, the side bar now extends all of the way down the page. Not a big issue since comments tend to not be that long, but it is wasted space. It is also competing with the content for horizontal space, this is a bigger issue. The old design was more compact anyway so it seems better in general.
- There is no light theme.
- Putting user title in the title area of submissions is weird.
- Links no longer have a history color, so they do not indicate that they have been visited.
- The orange plus next to every keyword is crazy. Highest emphasis on the page steals attention from the actual content. A rarely used feature should not be prominent.
- Some icons are ugly and excessive like the reply arrow and gear. Others in the header are needless since they have text anyway.
Cannot really compare anything else because the dark theme is distracting.
i also understand that as a user, my opinion is irrelevant, and it's probably only a matter of time before the old layout is lost entirely. i don't know what development looks like on either layout, but i think a button that allows users to toggle layout in a single click without navigating menus, searching settings forms, or entering a password (kind of like the "click here to try modern retro" button, but both ways) might be an easy way to help users gradually adjust to the change. we could toggle to the new layout to use new features like the new rtf format support i've heard about and then toggle back to the old layout when we're done, gradually acclimating to the new layout by exposure so that when the old layout finally passes, though still tragic, maybe it won't be as much of a shock adjusting to the new one.
This is because every journal title varies in text length, which in turn makes the journal rating lost in a jumble of text. However, if the journal rating was to be at the beginning of the journal it would be more visible and easier to see at a first glance.
Good feedback!
As someone who suffers from OCD and Dyslexia, this would be a great quality-of-life feature to have, if not by default, maybe it could be an optional setting for users.
Also, I noticed that my profile description, journal header/footer, etc, are having BBC Coding issues.
Like they're fine in some sections, but others that have the same coding are having • or ★ symbols disappearing, or hex color coding isn't working in general. I've even tried copying and pasting the ones that do work and replacing them in the sections that are broken, but it does nothing.
And it looks horrible. The old layout wasn’t exactly pretty, but it wasn’t that bad. And the buttons are HUGE for no reason.
I think the issue might be that the new layout is forcing me into mobile view despite requesting the desktop website, so that looks like a bug. And it should NOT default to mobile view on an iPad.
Modern is just very non user friendly to me and unless there's work done to make a version like classic, I don't see myself ever switching
I do not like the "modern" UI. the classic UI is completely usable and everything is easy to get to and makes sense. modern seems to have a lot of the features and settings hidden behind menu drop-downs, which i'm sure are even worse on mobile.
I also saw a comment above about "sunsetting" the classic theme. Does this mean all users will be forced to switch? I don't use FA a whole lot anymore, but that kind of change will push users like myself even further away. You don't need a new UI, and you never did.
It's something that's actually very very upsetting to me
I'd suggest submitting a ticket with that feedback. ;3
We prefer to be able to review your creatives before we will allow you into our inventory/ move you along the payment pipeline. However, if you want to email us and discuss how long you were looking to wait, we can send over our creatives guidelines and go from there.
An example being looking at a individual submission, all the information that is secondary to the piece itself is ordered below in small boxes, but on modern its all bloated up and huge when it really shouldn't be, theres no reason for tags to take up nearly the same height box as the actual submission and be scrunching it to the left, similar issues plague damn near every piece of the modern ui, its just unnecessarily big and crammed
we want to introduce to Fur Affinity. While it's very cool that Classic still has its diehard fans; most websites simply update the UI abruptly, with no warning, and we've tried to maintain it for nearly a decade.
As we no longer officially support it as far as new features go; and it would be greatly beneficial for both Admins (Techs especially) and Users if we properly sunset it at last after all these years.
That's it, that one little thing keeping me in the 2005 time capsule.
saying that classic "still has its diehard fans" makes it sound like classic users are a niche minority. is that really true? i would have expected the majority of users (at least those of those who were around before the new layout) to prefer the old layout.
I can't say the exact number, but it's a very, very small percentage of active users, constantly shrinking every time it's checked. It's a respectable commitment to still be in classic after all these years, and I know that none of the classic users want to give up their UI...but it's getting to be more and more of a logistical problem for development, maintenance, and site stability. We'd rather properly announce its end than let it die by a thousand cuts and give classic users an incomplete, buggy version of the website that gets worse and worse...
We promise that modern looks super good these days, if you haven't seen it, though...if you wanted to jump over... 🥺
I liked classic. I can't remember when I gave up on it, but it was because I knew I would have to eventually because of the advanced notice. Not fun, but I could see why it was necessary.
The point is, I went modern when I didn't want to because you convinced me it was important and for good reasons. From my perspective as a set-in-my-ways user, it's very important that a site communicate why changes like these has to happen.
It's good that you emphasise the technical reasons as to why classic causes troubles and can't be maintained any longer. I'd also suggest that it's important to acknowledge that this is a regrettable development for part of the user base, and that this part is not always reflected accurately in the statistics. It's a crying shame that classic can't be maintained any more, despite every effort, and these are the reasons.
You do communicate that quite well already, and I appreciate that effort. It makes a difference, so stick to the course. No matter how you slice it, this is a bit of a bitter pill to swallow, and it goes down better with good reasons and respect for the attachment to the old UI.
Part of our ongoing effort to improve FA is to completely gut the old codebase from language to db schema. I've mentioned this in our last Town Hall, of which we will be having more in the future to answer questions like these, that any modernization efforts will focus on the new theme exclusively. We will give people more than enough time notice when we are going to remove support for Classic entirely, but today or even in the next few months is not going to be that time.
From what I've learned from the userbase, there's a lot of technical bugs with Modern and it's part of the reason people stay on Classic.
What I want to be absolutely clear about is that the next engine powering FA will have it's own share of bugs and weirdness. That's unfortunately the common factor in programming on any scale.
We're going to do our best to preserve a mode that if not is similar to Classic, at least has less JS attached to it. I cannot promise it, because I haven't gotten into the weeds with it yet, but I can at least promise to try.
I respect immensely the reasons why people choose to stay with the UI and Flow they know. It's why we haven't gotten rid of it and continue to support it despite the single digit percentage usage.
Rather, I think our failure as a technical team was and is not addressing the issues people had and continue to have with Modern when they had them, so we could foster more adoption to the new UI. We need to be better about fixing issues in a timely manner, and that's what I'm hoping transitioning to a new codebase with better ways for more people to get involved will help us achieve.
We're a small team, it's literally been two or three developers versus 45k active users daily. But that cannot be an excuse. It needs to be a learning tool we use to understand that we need and have people that are willing to help us, we just have to get ourselves to the starting line.
I don't hate the modern theme and I'm fine with things changing but it doesn't have as good usability as classic, Homepage is fine, notification page is fine, but all the wasted space on search, journal and submission pages make it so ugly, oversized and unintuitive to use, as some others have said it looks like it's trying to be mobile when it's supposed to be desktop.
Now, I'm never best pleased when a website goes on sunsetting things, but I understand it may be necessary or unavoidable. Still, this bit of pedantry will suffice as a token of my displeasure.
Meanwhile, though, a content rating for journals is a good idea. More options in that department. A good change. Now, the current internet teaches anyone to be suspicious of change. And a rework of an old and venerable site like this is always going to be very difficult. Still, I do trust you to make it work in the end.
Just grumbling about changes on my interwebs didn't feel very constructive, so I'm glad it helped!
It's not perfect, but it still fixes a lot of the issues that made me constantly switch back to classic.
I am happy the banner is finally centered and not trailing off the side of the screen. 😭
How difficult at minimum could you add a thumbs up/down icon counter to the journals?
I remember my Aunt throwing the Furby out of the windows, he scream "Wheeeee!", seems he has fun - not me for sure.
I notice the colors for General, Mature and Adult are a bit different now. Adult use bright red now, on big Screens it reflects badly.
We need community to give proper feedback to improve Modern but as it stands Classic handicaps our tech team and any projects they try to work on.
So I guess we'll have to see when it happens.
Again; I'm not against any of this /directly/ so to say but saying "oh we have the data" isn't exactly confidence inspiring if the data isn't open for all to see.
(and no im not asking for the data to be open but right now its been a lot of 'source: dude just trust me')
I would love if you could simply provide feedback on what you'd like changed instead of trying to poke us with sticks 😅
Speaking of improvements, I'm going to toot my own department's horn. Hey, remember when getting an ad up would be at minimum a week or more? ^^; That's now down to 48 hours.
It's more likely than you think!
But my point in bringing that up isn't to restart that debate; its to point out that major changes happen to this site only to be undone for whatever reason which is why my response is "we'll have to see".
Ugh. Sorry again.
We've maintained Classic for years and years for the benefit of users that still want it instead of just killing it when Modern became the default, like most websites probably would've done. The numbers on classic continue to dwindle, and it's a huge hurdle for development to continue to maintain. There's no easy and clean solution in regards to Classic, so we're trying to give as MUCH heads up as possible while also listening to feedback: if you have any little features or functionality of Classic that aren't on Modern you'd prefer to exist, we could see what we could do. We've already gotten a few little and interesting ideas to discuss, so if you have any that would make Modern a better fit for folks, please share 'em with us
The move isn't done to disrespect Classic or its users; we've maintained it for a long time because we know some people DO prefer it. So, we'd love to do our best to make the transition easier for those still on the old UI as it finally reaches end of life...
I'm saying that if the staff insist I'm wrong then... ok. I'm wrong. In fact I really would rather not be right. Again (and again and again).
I'm not against FA, its staff or the fact that it doesn't want to maintain creaky old stuff. But I'm beginning to find myself less and less convinced that the staff themselves believe this to be the correct course of action when I've repeatedly gone back and tried my best to remove any curses, swears or insults and to give critique in as flat of tone as possible in the hopes to avoid any confusion or offense and have only been repeatedly lectured for doing so.
Again; I apologise. But I stand by saying "we'll have to see".
We will -hopefully- surprise you with our efforts in the future. And, in relation to the other thing you mentioned, see the comment above: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal...../#cid:61376564
For convenience, yes! Uncivil is a word, and the other staffer is the site owner ^^;
ban me or something.
because i don't really know what i've done to deserve such sudden and abrupt animosity to the point where my comments have been deleted and/or hidden and then unhidden.
i'm not interested in playing these games. what the heck. i'm sorry. like i really am. not necessarily for what i wrote (although i still regret it) but for being under the mistaken impression that i wouldn't end up getting nailed to the wall over this stuff.
We need better and more specific feedback than "ugly" please. We want to improve Modern.
why not offer people to "beta test" the retro theme and then offer a beta tester sticker to those who stuck through it for a couple weeks and provided proper feedback.
The existing modern light, on a pure white background, is far too intense for people with photophobia to use. The colors on classic light are much less intense than modern light, and are readable without eye pain. Over-stimulation of the optic nerve is not something that most medications have an effect on, so FA will become unusable to me the moment classic light is gone. This has been my most used site for 19 years, and one I've supported to the best of my ability, and it's a bit scary to think that I might not be able to use it much longer over a soon to exist accessibility issue. Currently, FA is very accessible for me, and I will be extremely thankful if it can remain that way, even after classic is gone.
(Just speaking as a member and not a moderator, Modern Light is like an eldritch horror. Searing eye pain whenever I have to look at it lol)
It has been mentioned a number of times via Fender Journals and our more recent Townhall. The first mention of Classic going away started in 2019.

similarly i've seen a number of comments expressing surprise that classic is going to go away imminently with responses pointing out that it has been stated multiple times that classic might go away some day. the problem here is that if classic might go away someday, then that could be 10 years away, and things could change by then. maybe fa decides to make the modern layout mimic the classic layout. maybe no one switches to modern and fa decides to drop modern and focus on refactoring the old layout to make it maintainable. maybe by some miracle somehow there is a third new layout that resembles neither but is somehow still acceptable to users of both. the first announcement said that classic would not receive new features or updates, which suggests a gradual sunsetting process where it's simply left unmaintained indefinitely. without an announcement of a specific timeline, there's no reason to expect that classic will go away soon or that it will be removed all at once rather than simple left unmaintained. the lack of clarity doesn't give users much information to use for making decisions.
finally, i'd like to suggest that the difficulty of switching between the two layouts has been a significant barrier to change. i have been curious about some new features in the past, but not so curious that i'd be willing to navigate menus, fill out forms, and enter my password to change back and forth. if i could click a button at the top of the page to try switch to modern in order to try a specific feature on a specific page (like the new document viewer) and then click a button to change back when i'm done, then i might gradually become acclimated to the new layout as i use it more and more to get access to specific features that give me a reason to use it. as it stands though, i might be curious about a feature, but the burden of trying it out is just too high. it might be too late for this to be effective now (i think the option needed to be there since the beginning. hindsight and all that), and it might not have worked at all, but since there's already a one-click toggle on the classic layout now, it seems like it might be pretty easy to add a matching toggle to the new layout until classic is removed, and in the worst case no one winds up using it and the situation is the same as it is now.
that site layout that was available before the current one looked modern enough but was better organized
Five dashes, no spaces, and no quotes gives you the faded line break.
Thank yew

Does the embed reader no longer support more specific hex code colors? Went back and read an older story that I could have sworn used a shade of silver that doesn't seem to work anymore.
EDIT: for an extra goof, I was wondering why [ b ] wasn't showing. Turns out it was doing a funny and not showing.
