Honestly I had heard nothing about it being a racist symbol until it started getting all of this coverage. To a lot of people, the flag symbolizes nothing more than "Southern Pride". That's what a lot of people grew up with and were taught, being completely oblivious to the racist meaning of it. I'm willing to bet that the fursuiter is one of those people who didn't understand that. Of course, a lot of people including myself know that now, but I think we should give the benefit of the doubt for others. The realization is a rather recent development for most people, and you have to give it enough time before calling someone out as being racist for using it. You can't automatically assume that everyone knows about it already, even if it was spread so much. Because it became a cultural thing, too, it takes time for people to accept that something that meant so much to them is actually a really bad thing. Of course, I'm not saying that we shouldn't hate the flag and shouldn't scold people for using it. We should inform them about it, and if they understand it and continue to use it, that's when you should call them out. That's when they deserve it.

And I am glad you are taking it upon yourself to inform people of this form of racism. I have experienced racism as recently as yesterday. It is emotionally exhausting to inform racist white people each and every time they commit it. Not everyone can so easily identify racism. Not everyone has made the effort to understand something that has been around in the Americas since 1492.

But to a majority of people, that flag symbolizes racism. "A lot of people" doesn't put a finger to the statistical fact that 1 in 8 US Citizens lives in California, where higher levels of education & People of Color, have grown weary of the ignorance plaguing the nation.

I had a friend post that as his icon on FaceBook. Immediately I was shocked and removed him. I am getting in the habit of removing anyone that posts shit like that, or, and I KNOW I am going to get sick just typing this but...*takes a deep breath* people/furiends who believe....Donald Trump, Ben Carson or Marco Rubio would make a good president....and just like that a little piece of my soul dies....If they get voted in, I swear it will be the end of us all. The whole "we're not going to last a century unless environmental changes are made" thing you said to me, and with Obama's Climate Change bill being blocked by a majority of Republicans and a few traitor Democrats, I feel like our world is almost over. I seriously cannot sleep soundly at night worrying about this. It scares me. A lot!

Same here. In the bigger picture, classes don't seem so meaningful when compared to what we're up against just so we can survive. I'm prepping for the losing situation because I can't believe how ignorant people are. How much we've fallen behind...
