Nah, do I have time for Birthdays?

I usually don't broadcast my birthday date. This might seem a bit silly at first, but there is a perfectly valid explanation for this.
Sites like Facebook are really good at reminding you that someone on your contact list has a birthday. In such an event it's a very easy task to just blindly drop by and post a greeting. Heck, there's even apps that generates automatic birthday wishes from you!
While this might make things simpler and birthday dates easier to deal with, it really takes something away. When people don't have to remember your birthday, a birthday greeting looses almost all of it's meaning. Instead of being a verification that someone cares enough about you to remember your date, it is nowadays degraded to an almost automated response; an empty shell without any signifficance.
That's why I don't broadcast my birthday date. If you want to wish me a happy birthday, you have to actually prove that it means something, by remembering the date.
"And when is your birthday?" you might ask... Well, it was about 2 days ago: On the 19th of February.

I have a bit hard time remembering all birthdays of close friends even, but I
like to say happy birthday to friends that I actually care about.
Happy late birthday Pilosus! I hope you had a nice birthday back at the 19th!
May the next year, and the years after be great and awesome! Sorry I just
hadn't written it down, but now I have! ^^
Yeah, I figured people will have a hard time sending wishes if they don't know my date at all, which was kinda why I posted this journal.
