Thoughts on Zootopia

After seeing so much hype and fan art and talk about this movie from my friends, I decided to go watch Zootopia.
Surprisingly, I rather enjoyed it. The animation was beautifully rendered, the characters were interesting and quite believable with great voice acting, and the story while not particularly complicated much more than that of a typical family film aimed at a younger audience, was certainly passable and interesting with all things considered. There were good funny moments and a handful of rather low and emotional ones. The relationship between the two main characters is rather fun and enjoyable to watch and the world that they live in is rather immersive. And I think because of that, it sort of left me wanting a bit more exploration and explanation of it. It isn't really a bad thing, especially since any backstory/depth is only explained as far as was needed to advance the story, but for a world as big and interesting as this, it sort of made me feel like wanting to see and explore of it. This was meant for a younger audience, although adults would enjoy this too since the themes that are talked about and explored can be rather serious and surprisingly relevant to us humans in the real world.
All in all, although the hype surrounding the movie has given me the impression that this would be the best animated feature in a long time, I do not feel that this is it, but it is certainly up there and I have no criticisms of it that detracted any enjoyment I had. I agree with Jeremy Jahns' verdict: Zootopia is worth watching and buying on Blu-ray.
Apologies if this isn't particularly a well-thought out review. It is late, I normally don't write reviews. XP
