Just...something....


It brings me back to a time
misty
hazy.
The spicy haze of clove-smoke,
the smokey taste of sweet whisky like the voice of Billy Holliday,
of angels.
A crooning love of the dark,
sweet words whispered in the night from the bottle of cheap wine.
Candy boys and golden girls, dancing in the moonlight,
sticky-sweet skin against my tongue,
an innocence that danced along my lips.
If I had only known it then.
Yet it passed by, unknown.

Looking back though the golden haze of years,
it all seems so silly
useless
rediculous.
Those children of the night sparkling in the moonlight.
So young
hopeful
needing
alive.

I look in the mirror and see the spiderwebs of Fate
dancing a minuet of eternity along my body and smile.
And in the bottom of the wine bottle I am again one of those
Golden boys
Candy Girls,
strawberry-sweet and dancing in the moonlight.
