What the 描妖 Doing?
General | Posted 10 months agoHey so, figured I should make a new featured journal that covers, in general, everything I'm up to and where to find it all!
HINT: (it's on Patreon)
Comics! - The main thing I do. I aim to release new comics every friday, alternating between my two stories, God Slayers and Solipsus.
God Slayers - The main comic I've been doing since 2017! It has one published book so far and over 230 pages! The latest public comics are free for all, while the next five pages are exclusive in Early Access to all Patreon subscribers for $1.
Solipsus -An experimental secondary comic, where I can play around more with a different setting and styles and storytelling. Public pages are available for free and an additional five pages are in Early Access as well, all for that same $1.
Character Polls - Roughly once a month (ish), I'll pick a few things I'm interested in doodling as a bonus art and I'll ask for everyone to help me decide who or what I should draw next. These are also free to vote in and the bonus art is free as well (except for the high res images, which are also on Patreon for $1 - look, I'm a cheap whore).
God Slayers TTRPG - In development, alpha build is on Patreon, currently only available to some handpicked playtesters and higher tier patrons, playtesting and beta updates are in progress.
Solipsus TTRPG module - Just kidding. Kinda. I'm not SERIOUSLY working on this or putting time into it, but I AM taking notes because frankly I find worldbuilding and designing a TTRPG go hand in hand.
Max Dakimakura - One side is nearly done, but I still want to do a bunch of variants. It's in ultra high res and it's a very large commitment and until whatever the fuck is going on with global trade gets sorted we likely can't even sell them for a reasonable price, so it's on pause for now. When I get back around to it, I'll let y'all know!
Riley Minicomic - There's more to Riley's story but each page takes a lot of time and I've deprioritized it in favor of the other comics for now.
Project Doodad - Regrettably it is a huge time commitment and at this point I'd have to switch gears back to full time game development to continue this project, sacrificing my comics and everything else. There may come a time where such a shift makes sense, but for now I'm choosing to invest in improving my art skills and focus on my furry comics.

God Slayers: The Tabletop RPG (Early Prototype First Look...
General | Posted a year agoWell, hey there!
Do you like tabletop gaming? Do you like the Post-Apocalypse? Do you like... *gasp* FURRIES?! I knew it. Y'all a buncha furries!
Well, guess what? I'm making my own FURRY POST-APOCALYPSE TTRPG, which is currently in an early prototype phase!

(gods save me from ever having to market myself, fuuuuuck)
So, real talk. For a long time I've been a bit dismayed about the existing RPG systems that are out there. There's good ones, sure, and I wouldn't be thinking about it so much if I didn't love the various TTRPGs I've played. And I know there are also COUNTLESS ones that I've not played. But I'm tired of the blanket majority of them, (ESPECIALLY the largest among them) all kind of defaulting to the same, tired old systems and mechanics, and every time I learn about a new system, I see a lot of the same things just done over again. I've spent the last year or so pondering what I would do differently if I had the freedom to do anything. Well, it turns out that I do, in fact, have the freedom to do anything. So... that's exactly what I did: everything I would do differently with the freedom to do anything.
I started with inventing my own, entirely new dice system. (Though I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone came to me and was like, "hey a system exactly like this has existed since the 1970s," because we live in an age where it's nearly impossible to come up with entirely original ideas. Hasn't happened yet, though!) And I've also tossed aside a lot of garbage subsystems that I hate with a passion. Like weight-based encumbrance, unnecessarily large skill lists and Hit Points.
"HEY WAIT," I hear some of you saying, "HOW IS IT STILL AN RPG WITHOUT THOSE THINGS"? Well, my straw-filled friend, because, one might think, the point of a Role-Playing Game is to facilitate, you know, PLAYing a ROLE, and systems like FUCKING Hit Points, where your character's entire well-being is dumbed down to a single gods-damned, thrice-cursed NUMBER on a bar of RED GOO that floats over your head all the time and flips the binary switch from PERFECTLY ALIVE to TOTALLY DEAD when it reaches zero, takes me entirely out of my character and out of the world they're in. So everything I've changed from what many might consider "traditional RPG" game mechanics has been done in the interest of trying to retheme it for a (hopefully) better overall roleplay experience. (I srsly can't tell you guys in words just how much I've come to hate HP as a health system... or maybe I just did!). Some traditional gamers might think I'm stupid for trying to reinvent the wheel. I might agree with them! But stupid or not, I'm gonna try anyway.
(As a side-note, I hope no one takes me too seriously when I blather on like this. I do recognize that Hit Point systems have their merits, namely that they're simple and easy to understand and they stay out of the way when players are focused on other things. But if I really want to get immersed in my character, to feel their every injury and imagine what it's like to be them as they get stabbed in the chest, Hit Points as a system falls critically short. So it's mostly that I endlessly wish such a thing was much more... interesting. And it's especially important to me in a harsh, unforgiving post-apocalypse setting that you can't just drink a potion of red goo to refill your red goo bar. That's the real reason I've been trying for years to come up with something more interesting. I *think* I've finally succeeded, but only time and playtesting can tell!)
ANYHOO! We're in the very early prototype phase of game development. (v0.0 so think like, PRE-Pre-Alpha.) It's currently available to Patrons of Trader tier and higher. I don't normally like paywalling my stuff, but it's simply not far enough along where I'd feel comfortable making it available to everyone. It's not quite yet fully playtestable, but it's getting there! Today I released a rundown of the entire Character Creation process, and combined with previous posts I've made, it should be theoretically possible to get started building your own character Right MEOW! (At the low low cost of providing me some delicious delicious FEEDBACK so I can make the necessary tweaks to make the whole thing more fun.)
https://www.patreon.com/posts/gs-tt.....cess-109195306
It's being designed as a TTRPG for my webcomic's universe, but you don't have to be a fan of my comic, or even know anything about it to play, if you just wanna do any Furry Post-Apocalypse campaign in your own whacky post-apocalypse world, the GS: TTRPG can (hopefully) indulge that. You also don't have to give me money unless you can't wait to check out the system in the Earliest of Accesses. I actually don't like putting it behind a paywall. You can also just follow me on Patreon for free, and I'll be posting news and releasing it to more tiers as we transition more towards a version with actual numbers in it. Plus I post art and my comic too, so this is like... some extra stuff!
"NOW WAIT A MINUTE!!!" You might be asking, "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TO DESIGN YOUR OWN GAME? AREN'T YOU JUST AN ARTIST? WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS?"
First of all, calm down, you're getting straw everywhere. To answer your question though, I'm just a self-aware idiot with some middling artistic skills. I did spend 10 years of my life in the video games industry, and alongside the itching, creeping, voices insanity madness crazy it left me with, I learned quite a bit about game design from working closely with some very brilliant people. I won't argue that any of my designs are necessarily better than any other games, but they're different, and I believe it's very important to try things that are different so that others can take the very best parts of whatever I make and build on them to create something even better!
Look at me still talking when there's drawing to do, if I had a bit more confidence in myself maybe I wouldn't have to ramble on like this... cuz like... who am I really trying to convince? ... Anyway... that's the point behind starting to slowly roll stuff like this out in extra early access and get feedback on the whole process as early as possible! To build up confidence in what I've made so I can feel comfortable sharing it with more people. So! Please subscribe to me on Patreon if you wanna, please don't if you don't wanna, or just follow me for free if you like, but either way, thanks for putting up with me! <3

Poll! Tell me who to draw!

I've started doing these polls on Patreon, (free for all to vote in if you have an account, no paywall), where people get to pick who I draw next in the next full-color thing I do.
The last one did quite well, so I'm doing another one! And I'm hoping to make it a more regular thing I think. It's both useful and motivating for me when people show their interest in the things I do!
So click the link, vote for one or many, and leave a comment if you want to tell me who you'd like to see that didn't make it this time!

MOVING!!! - In case it wasn't obvious enough yet
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm just trying to make sure I announce it in all the places, lol. This will be the first time in a year or more that I have had to skip more than just one week, but moving is very challenging and stressful and my webcomic is kind of starting to get a fair few followers and I don't want anyone to miss my announcements and think I've disappeared. Maybe I'm being a little panicky, lol, but in any case I should do my due diligence to reach all my followers across all the platforms.
So YEAH!!! Moving... It's happening. And there's a crapton to do still and I will probably be at least a week without my computer and I probably won't be able to seriously dedicate time for drawing until we get set up in the new house in May.
So thank you all for reading! I'll still be trying to post sketches if I can, but if I miss a week, you now know why. I look forward to continuing Kiva's story in May with a fresh new perspective in a nice new place. :D

Favorite Character Poll Results
General | Posted 5 years agoKiva - 2
Kiera - 5
Max - 5
Riley - 5
I'm actually sitting here laughing to myself about this.
"Hm, I think I want to draw a really solid, big, wallpaper or poster-sized piece of art, and spend a huge chunk of time on it and make it look really good... but I don't want to draw every character in it because that's a monumental amount of work. How do I pick one of my characters when I love all of them? I know! I'll let people vote on the character they like best!" I thought.
17 votes is actually more than I was expecting to get, and looking through the detailed data, it doesn't seem like anyone was actively TRYING to make it a tie. I, myself, had voted for Riley, but I removed that vote so the results we have are purely sans me... If I was to reapply it now, Riley would win. But the whole point to making the poll was specifically so I DIDN'T dictate the outcome, and I think there's a more interesting conclusion to draw from all this.
I noticed an odd benefit to the mistake I made of letting people vote for multiple characters. It lets me play with another metric. If you voted for more than one character, I could weight your votes, say, 1% less than people who voted for only one character, in which case Max would be the clear winner by a significant margin, since he received the most FULL votes and many of the people who voted for Kiera and Riley also voted for someone else.
I don't want to do it that way though. Even among those who voted for multiple characters, no one voted for more than two, and why should your votes count any less just because you voted for two characters? I certainly didn't plan for that to be the case, nor did I warn you those were going to be the rules. So I'm not going to penalize you by changing them now.
Last night as I blasted out a bunch of social media posts trying to get someone, anyone to cast the tiebreaker vote in the last two hours of the poll, it occurred to me before I went to bed that I might just have to accept these results. And I think... siiiiiiiigh... I think I might just have to draw posters for all three winners. It's only fair, right?
It will take me... probably... months to finish these posters. Especially considering we're moving to a new state in a few weeks. But... I figure... what the hell. I can always play less video games.

Happy New Year!!!
General | Posted 5 years agoI've been hesitant to post a new journal because I've been sitting at exactly 100 and a new journal would put me at 101 and that does terrible things to my brain slug, but if anything deserves to break that count, it's the end of this terrible garbage year.
Happy Fuck 2020!!!
Though, to be quite fair, this year hasn't been ALL bad. I've updated a lot of the info in my featured journal to include some of the new perks I'm offering to patrons. I can safely say now my art is better than it has probably ever been. We've started the lore page on the main site, we've started getting noticed on TopWebComics, we are gonna be approaching a huge milestone at page 100 soon, and we even got a few new patrons in the latter quarter of this year.
And I have all of you to thank for it!
So thank you for subscribing, thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, thank you for favoriting, thank you for chatting with me, thank you for voting for us on TWC and thank you for whatever it is you do to generally fill me with the will to keep going. It helps. It all helps. Thank you.

God Slayers - Info
General | Posted 6 years agoNew pages of God Slayers will be posted (nearly) every Wednesday of each week, with sketches posted every Friday.
Anyone subscribed to my Patreon will have Early Access to FIVE brand new pages for as little as $1 a month. Patrons will also get weekly updates with spoiler-free previews of in-progress pages, and the $5 tier and up will have access to High-Res downloads.
Trader-tier and higher patrons can offer a design for a Background Character! Occasionally you will see me sneak them into some panels on certain pages, if and when it makes sense for them to be there.
I'm working on this full-time, and it takes me about 4-6 days to finish a single page, which leaves very little time for much else. I'll be trying to post every week, but I reserve the right to skip a week here and there if I need to rest my shoulder or take care of other life things.
The goal for each year is to try and finish about 40 pages, and I'm guessing it will take me roughly 400-500 pages to conclude Kiva's story.
If you have any suggestions for sketches you'd like to see, please feel free to leave them in your comments on this journal! I will pick my favorite suggestions and draw them when I'm having trouble coming up with anything else. They should be comic-related and relatively simple. I'm sort of meh about drawing porn these days, but moods fluctuate and the right suggestion at the right time could always inspire me.So WHEN is Chapter 3 going public?
General | Posted 6 years agoEver since embarking down this path of early access for patrons, I'm sure the rest of you are wondering when the chapter will be made public. Again, this way of doing things is an experiment, I'm not yet certain that I'll be doing it this way forever. All I know is that it's really hard for me to keep up with the once-per-week full color full page posts, and I need a better solution that also holds me to a semi-consistent schedule and gets the comic out in a tenable way!
So WHEN can you expect Chapter 3? The answer I have for you now is "when it's done." IE. The second I'm done with the final page of Chapter 3, I'll be posting all the pages online free for everyone at once in all the places (on Godslayerscomic.com for sure, but probably a bit slower on sites like FA and Deviantart since I have no way of bulk-posting and it's a lot of manual labor.)
The OTHER answer I have for you is "no later than February 1st" I hope for sooner, but the holidays are always crazy and I can't predict how much work I'll get done in December. February 1st is my personal hard deadline, and I will feel bad if I miss it. So far, all the pages I've posted to Patreon (except a couple I am going to fix) are already set to go publicly visible on February 1st. So even IF the chapter isn't complete by then, you'll get to read what's up on Patreon by that point.
Then I'll start working on Chapter 4, which will again be early access to Patrons for a few months. I'm hoping to keep up this schedule for a few chapters, but I want to know if you guys like it or hate it, or need me to try something different. I know it's a bit strange... It makes sense to me though because I consume webcomics in big chunks... so I think by posting 15-20 pages at a time, it might be easier to follow the story. On the other hand, if I'm loving a webcomic enough to pay for it, I'm probably more likely to follow it week-to-week... hence, the early access plan.

Page 38 Is available for Early Access on Patreon!
General | Posted 6 years agoWoot! On time! It's almost like I'm responsible or something. Who knew?
So for now, I'm going to be posting these Early Access pages with a timer that automatically makes them available to the public on May 1st, 2020. This does NOT mean I intend to make non-patrons wait that long. That's just so that I don't have to go back and manually change all the Patreon posts myself later. When I'm finished drawing this current story arc, I'll start posting the pages free in all the usual places, pretty rapidly, probably 3-5 pages a week until they are all posted. I'm hoping that it'll be finished sometime early next year. The holidays always mess with productivity.

God Slayers is Back!
General | Posted 6 years agoNovember is almost here! And the first few pages of Chapter 3 will be going up on Patreon as promised, November 1st! Yes, I know that's not a Wednesday, but I don't control the days, shhh!
For anyone that missed the announcements I posted in various random and disorganized places across the internet, here's the plan:
-New weekly sketches will continue being posted every Wednesday. I'm doing these for fun and for practice, because I need both.
-Patrons of all tiers will gain Early Access to all colored, finished comic pages. Early Access means they will get to view them as soon as the pages are "done," with a more flexible goal of about 2-3 pages a month.
-Patrons of higher tiers are able to suggest content for weekly sketches, bonus sketches, or other small art projects like stickers, and I will devote some extra time to these each month.
-Ko-Fi donators can request to view any currently available Early Access pages.
-When a chapter or story arc has reached a reasonable end-point, it will then be made publicly available for free on FurAffinity, Deviantart, and, of course, godslayerscomic.com.
This is an experiment while I continue trying to pretend like I know what I'm doing. It's all subject to change, especially if people hate it.
The money from your donations will be put towards giving my hard-working husband a well-deserved break, and I honestly can't think of a better cause than that. :3

God Slayers Update
General | Posted 6 years agoI've been enjoying the break, but Kiva's story must continue, so it shall! When we relaunch the comic in November, I don't think I'm going to try and force myself to keep up with the one-a-week schedule from now on. It's just too demanding for a full-color page. I'm going to try and instead continue making 1 sketch every Wednesday, ranging from practice doodle to sketchy mini-comic, and finishing between 1 and 3 full color pages of the comic each month. That way I can take my time with them and really focus on trying to get better at drawing, while still putting out comics with some level of consistency.
My current plan is to release comic pages on Patreon first, as soon as they are done, and then release them in blocks on FA and other sites at the start of the following month. That way I can give my Patrons some special thanks without being a dick to people who just want to enjoy the comic for free. I strongly believe you SHOULD enjoy the comic for free, because frankly, it's not a high enough quality that I would feel comfortable charging money for it. But there's still a couple of people subscribed to my Patreon, and both my Patreon and my Ko-fi exist solely for people who want to throw a more concrete form of encouragement and validation at me. I want to be sure to thank them for that support!

The Future of God Slayers
General | Posted 7 years agoTLDR: I'm going to be pausing my release schedule for a bit so I can rebuild my backlog of finished pages, reevaluate the pricing model for Patreon, and generate some of the extra lore content I want to make available on the main site. Regular content updates planned to continue in November.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
My backlog of finished pages has been slowly shrinking since I launched in August. I've been, for the most part, almost able to keep up with the one-per-week release, but only barely, and when you factor in all the weeks we've gone travelling, and the surgery I had this year... my backlog is basically gone. While there is a page I could publish today, it's ugly and rushed. Without the comfort of a strong buffer, the more pressure I have felt to play catch up. This has resulted in me finding a general lack of motivation to draw and cutting corners where I'd really rather not. Not every page has to be great, but I'd like each one to at least have something about it I'm proud of. I want the freedom to experiment, to learn and grow and get better. That's why I started this comic in the first place. I don't want to mindlessly crank out content to meet an arbitrary release schedule that I picked in 2017.
Does this mean the comic is dead? Absolutely not. This is simply a short pause in publication. I'm still going to be working my ass off to generate comic pages and rebuild my backlog to levels I can feel more comfortable with when I start publishing again. I also want to generate additional art to use on the site for the lore section, and maybe even make a few shorter side-comics in the same universe about some of the different characters we've met, like Max and Twitch. I've built a very rich universe for God Slayers, and I think (*hope) it's very interesting, but showing it from just Kiva's perspective is rather limited. Ultimately, I want to finish telling Kiva's story. I have to, for my own personal sanity. It's a very long story, and the more time I delay, the longer it is going to take to tell it, so I don't want to delay it too long.
I'd like to keep posting art on a semi-regular basis. Probably sketches, but maybe sometimes a little more than just sketches. I feel that I owe it to the people who have been following God Slayers so far to not go totally silent while I'm working on making Chapter 3 as good as my current skills will allow. There's my Patrons of course, (close friends and family all), but there's also adavi123, coyabbit, and also VirgilTheDemonWolf. Your kindness and attention has really helped to keep me excited and motivated. I know there's also another 8-9 people who seem to be consistently following along with the comic. You might be silent and invisible, but I still see you, and I love you. <3
I'm hoping to start publishing Chapter 3 in the first week of November. I think that it's important to hold myself to a specific date instead of leaving it at "some vague time in the future." I may need to reevaluate this date, but for now, November is the goal.

Backgrounds are the bane of my existence
General | Posted 7 years agoPerhaps I should give up and admit I simply have no talent for drawing backgrounds. Perhaps I should continue to focus on refining and sharpening my characters and faces and expressions.
Perhaps I should simply quit whining and do the thing I'm supposed to be doing instead. Probably.

Made a Twitter account finally.
General | Posted 7 years agoOfficial Twitter account for God Slayers is live now: https://twitter.com/ComicSlayers/st.....362441728?s=19
Of course, this comes during a time where I'm going through a bit of post-surgery recovery and as a result I MIGHT need to put the comic on a slower release schedule for a bit after I finish publishing Chapter 2.
It all depends on how I'm feeling in the next week or so.

Art habits
General | Posted 7 years agoOver the course of embarking down this webcomicy-road, I've learned a lot about producing digital art and the strengths and shortcomings of my own artistic ability. Overall, I feel like I've been improving...
... But...
I've come to realize I've developed a fair number of really nasty art habits that are holding me back right now. I feel like, as we come to the end of Chapter 2, I've been stuck in a bit of a rut, mindlessly following a routine, instead of experimenting and trying new things. I used to think that character facial expressions were a strength of mine, but I've come to feel like they are one of the biggest weaknesses right now. I've been really disappointed lately as I fail, time and time again, to capture the expression I want. I try to forgive myself for mistakes, but I notice I'm making the same mistakes over and over again. That's not acceptable.
So, as I wrap up Chapter 2 and start on Chapter 3, I intend to do a bit more experimenting with characters and faces, and hopefully by evolving my style a bit more, I will be able to break some of the nasty art habits I've developed!

Comic will be up soon!
General | Posted 7 years agoSorry for the delay, I thought I had all my shit together, but I just got home from travelling all week and the comic I thought was done still needed a tiny bit of polish. It'll be posted in just a bit!
Anyone have any questions?
General | Posted 7 years agoGod Slayers takes place inside my huge, ongoing universe timeline. For Kiva's story, however, I've narrowed the scope of his tale down to a single perspective.
I've been kind of careful to play my cards close to the chest, because I don't want to tip my hand and accidentally spoil my own story, but does anyone have any questions about it? Do you want to know more about the city of Kuserra, the surrounding Deadlands, any of its denizens, or the characters themselves?
I will try to answer all that I can, but if I *CAN'T* answer the question, I will try to explain why and/or try to predict when you might get the answer through the comic itself as I publish more of the story.

Journal
General | Posted 7 years agoI had something to say a few minutes ago, but I forgot what it was. It was probably just a bunch of analytical introspective rambling like I like to do.
Oh well, I doubt it was important. New page will be up on Wednesday like always.

Christmas Timeline
General | Posted 7 years agoI'll try to get God Slayers Page 20 posted here on Wednesday as per usual, but we're travelling for the holidays so if for any reason I have trouble posting it on here from my phone, it'll be posted on my main site at https://www.godslayerscomic.com
If all else fails, it'll be up on my Patreon (free public post) so you will be able to read it there. Patreon allows you to schedule posts ahead of time, and I've already done that, so it'll be up there no matter what happens.

Chapter 1 - FEEDBACK PLZ
General | Posted 7 years agoGAH! Chapter 1 is almost finished!
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback on the comic so far, I'd love to hear them! Otherwise I'ma just keep drawing. AIMLESSLY. Well, not really, the story is already planned out for the next several years, but it isn't too late to make tweaks or improvements to it if anything has come across as confusing or unclear.
Particularly in regards to the text and dialogue... do my characters talk too much? Do they not talk enough? Would you like to see more setting or more expression? Is the pace of the comic too slow, too fast? Is it too dark, or perhaps the characters take things too lightly considering the stakes? How do you feel about the overall plot? Is there tension? Is there NO tension?
Is the text too big? Too small? Is the font crisp or is it fuzzy? Do the word bubbles stand out too much? Are they lost against the background?
Are the characters relatable? Do they seem emotional or are they shallow? Do their motivations make sense?
You know what? I'ma make a poll for y'all. Here you go. Some comments or questions or thoughts or suggestions are also really appreciated!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
General | Posted 7 years agoUnless you don't celebrate thanksgiving! In which case, I love you anyway!
I'll be out of town this week visiting family, but I *should* be within a wi-fi signal and gods willing I should be able to post God Slayers page 16 on Wednesday as normal. If it ISN'T up on time, or if there's any issues with it, well, blame the holiday... and me... but mostly the holiday.
In the worst case scenario, the latest comic is already posted to Patreon and will become publicly viewable on Wednesday automatically, so you can read it there.
