I’m finally going to do it…. (G)
Let me start with a question: have any of you moved from the US to Australia and what are your tips if so?
When I was applying to colleges (a decade ago!) I really wanted to go abroad for school. Well I’m finally in a position where the amount of paperwork and money can’t hold me back anymore. I absolutely WILL be moving to Australia before I’m 30 (so by 2028) while that is still 2 years out plus some I finally have a solid grasp on the steps plus that is how long it will take for me to make sure I have enough in my savings to account for at minimum a year worth of expenses. One of the things they check for is that you have funds for the entire duration of your visa… which is one of many reasons I didn’t go to college there directly after highschool lol bc where the hell was an 18 year old going to find 40k to account for the cost of getting there shipping my things etc etc etc.
The other difference is now I know someone there and having a person I know makes it feel so much more doable than it ever felt before. I want to try to go as a student and then when I graduate get a job that will sponsor a visa to stay even longer. In the long run permanent residency is the goal but if I have the chance to be a full citizen I would take it in a heartbeat. (Who knows maybe after knowing this hot Aussie man for 8 years online meeting him in person will tip us over the edge to a proper romance. He has all but said I can stay with him when I move there which relieves some of the stress of finding a place to stay seeing as Australia has a bit of a housing crisis both in cost and availability)
Anyway I’m very excited I’ve got what feels like a pretty solid plan and now I just need to start the application process to the uni I picked. Which will first require me to retake the SAT and ACT and therefore requires me to study for the first time in a decade lol but I am GOING TO DO IT! After all these years.
