Trying to Fill a Hole, Can That Lead to Good Art? (G)

Lately I've been pursuing projects that fill a part of my heart that I feel like has been thrown out against my will. From stories inspired by fond memories of mine to discussing plans to bring back the traditional television experience in a modern way, whatever the pursuit it's driven by trying to fill a hole that nothing today can seem to fill.

But it makes me wonder if that is a legitimate form of inspiration, if trying to fill a hole can legitimately lead to great art. Can trying to fill a hole create great art? Or am I making crap as a result?
