Notice Anything Different About My S.O.N.A.? (G)
14 years ago
I've spent a lot of time over the past few months on my "personal project"...but I finally* finished it: a rebuilt version of my S.O.N.A.!
(* - actually, it was finished a little over two weeks ago; however, I wanted to make sure that it would not be changed any further, so that I could begin to use it in place of my old avatar.)
I wanted to do this after seeing how much his appearance in the original clothed version (used to create my previous avatar) differed from the description provided in his character profile (which, aside from clarifying some minor details spotted during the rebuild, hasn't changed). In addition to (in my opinion) looking much better than the original version, he's also more anatomically accurate*: more details are present (such as eyebrows, a mouth, fingers and toes) and the parts of his body are more in (but not completely** in) proportion to each other. Plus, I can use the template as a "paper doll", to see how different outfits would look on him
(* - but not in that way : in the unclothed version [and, for comparison, the original unclothed version], certain parts have been excluded in order to make it SFW. The fact that most of his body has a feminine shape was due to something he was tricked into consuming; I couldn't represent that particular detail properly with the original version.)
However, I had to "borrow" a few parts from various sources to create the rebuilt version:
[*] Muzzle: based off of the muzzle in wrytergirl's version of my avatar (done as a birthday gift ). When I first saw the short muzzle, it looked a bit weird to me...but, when I was rebuilding my avatar, I realized that her version of the muzzle was correct: unlike the front view in the old version of my avatar, hers actually makes sense, since it takes the perspective of his face into account
(Plus, the full muzzle hasn't gone away: I can still show it in the side view and as part of his symbol/logo )
[*] Facial Tufts: proportions were adjusted to match up with wrytergirl's version of my avatar; their structure remains the same as before. They actually fit in better with his facial appearance than the larger ones did.
[*] Hands: traced from 3D models of Krystal (from the Star Fox series). I needed hands that looked like they were in proportion to the rest of the body, in two different perspectives (one for the front and back view, the other for the side view), and these models worked perfectly for this purpose.
[*] Tail: curvature was originally traced from wrytergirl's drawing, then adjusted to fit his frame. The tips were heavily based off of wrytergirl's drawing, with further adjustments to make each of them look more like the lower half of a crescent moon (or the shape of a dolphin's dorsal fin, but inverted).
[*] Feet: traced from 3D models of Krystal* (for the same reason as his hands), then modified in my version to have five toes (so that they would have the same number of digits as his hands...and because the model's three-toed version would have looked odd on him). The only shots I could get from the back were obscured by footwear, so I had to guess how the feet would look from the back.
(* - technically, I used a model of someone else's character for this...but only the colors and textures appeared to be different; the anatomical structure of most parts - including the feet - appeared to be unchanged from the original Krystal model. Since it was only the anatomy that I needed, not the colors or textures, I considered it to be traced from the original model.)
If you're wondering why, as a male, he has a feminine shape for most of his body, take a look at the following information (from Wolfey's character profile, under "Additional Data > Physical Appearance > Feminine Proportions"):
=====
Originally, he had a completely masculine figure. However, he was tricked into taking a highly addictive chemical mixture, which had an unusual (and, at the time, unknown) side effect: it caused him to gradually develop feminine proportions for a significant portion of his body.
His waist was affected the most, followed by the rest of his torso (chest, back, hips and butt) and his thighs - these parts look completely feminine. Away from his torso, the effects are gradually reduced - parts closer to his torso look more feminine than masculine and parts farther away from his torso look more masculine than feminine. His tail and the areas farthest away from his torso (neck, head, wrists, hands, ankles and feet) are unaffected - they look completely masculine.
=====
In other words, he hasn't developed anything exclusive to female anatomy; only the proportions of certain areas of his body have changed. If he keeps those parts hidden and only exposes the unaffected parts (like his head, hands and feet), he would be (correctly) considered to be male.
...
When creating Wolfey, I was trying to implement various qualities from my other characters...and had jokingly considered giving him a (partially-)feminine frame in the process, after seeing some other people's male characters who also had some feminine proportions (though in most cases, it was only their chests that were affected ). However, after looking into this idea a little more, I noticed that it would have an interesting effect on his background...as well as having an effect on another character of mine (a female who, unlike Wolfey, would benefit from that particular side effect). These things, along with a few other advantages (and potential comical situations ), were the reasons I decided to make it a canon part of his background.
(He did try to have the effects of his new figure reversed, so that he could return to having a fully-masculine figure. However, due to what he had gone through - both from the effects and the attempts to reverse them - he decided to stop trying for awhile, so that he could clear his head before continuing with the reversal. Eventually, he completely gave up trying to reverse the effects: he had come to the realization that his new figure would come in handy in the future, for various reasons )
