Two Weeks Since Our Aunt and Uncle Passed (G)
Both our aunt and uncle passed away about two weeks ago. They lived in the main house which is connected to ours by a courtyard. They gave us a good deal on rent and we supported them and their property in return. We saw them every day and they were a big part of our life. We miss them terribly.
During the month before they passed they got sick enough that we were helping them for sixteen hours a day while being on call during the night. We were stuck in a situation where we didn't have a life outside caring for them. Months before that, they did still need a lot of our help. Our uncle had late stage COPD while our aunt had very aggressive pancreatic cancer.
Things are complicated now that they've passed, but our living situation is stable, for now. We have been grieving and adjusting to life without them.
They passed their property down to my uncle's niece and she, along with her husband, are a bit of a hot mess. We thought they'd be able to handle things and we had faith they'd honor the agreement we had with our aunt and uncle (it was one of their dying wishes). That may still be true, but we are seeing signs that they are unstable and it may end up costing more (in time and money) to stay here than rent elsewhere. We're definitely good for three to six months. Beyond that, however... Let's just say that we're starting the process of going through everything we own and getting rid of anything that we don't need.
Beyond dealing with our aunt and uncle's final affairs and getting ready for a possible move, our number one priority is to get back into writing regularly. It's a lot easier now that we're no longer caretaking for our aunt and uncle. That took an immense amount of our time. And before that, we were dealing with having multiple personalities. That side of things is pretty stable now too, thankfully.
We'll be updating y'all on more stuff in time. We'll also be knocked out of commission for a day here and there at times due to grief and other adulting related to our aunt and uncle's deaths.
Hope y'all are having a good August despite the heat and real world chaos. We're going to be providing more regular distractions from what's going on out there and we are thankful for every single one of you that reads our stories.
Thanks for being here. We're excited to have more time to ourselves.
