Brewery: Kiuichi Brewery
Name: Hitachino Nest White Ale
Style: Witbier
Origin: Japan
Bottle: 11.2 oz
ABV: 5.5%
Appearance: A rich, pale, translucent gold
Pours: a steady 1/4” head of foam was maintainable up to the finish. It presented no difficulties or ‘buyer beware’s.
Smell: I’m getting citrus, orange perhaps or blood orange, maybe a hint of cherry or even wolf berry(Goji), or açai. This is blended with some spices like Coriander, Cardamom, maybe Ginger or Allspice.
Taste: The spices can be tasted as well, along with a light agave sweetness, which like its mouthfeel below keeps the spices in check, otherwise I fear it would come across as almost metallic tasting like an -extrapolated imagining of- mouthful of coins. There’s still some fruitiness to it, a citrus of some sort but rather mild like a grapefruit or lemon genetically modified to not be sour but still taste like a grapefruit or lemon, this citrusy aspect is infused with a sort of Raspberry taste as well. One could say pink lemonade but it tastes nothing at all like a pink lemonade...although I’ve never made mulled pink lemonade before, so, maybe?
This is a bright, fun, cheerful, optimistic brew and would pair well with something equally fun and upbeat. J-Pop or Anime theme music perhaps.
Mouthfeel: sharp, bright, and crisp in the mouth, with a nectar like smoothness to keep that sharpness in check.
Rating: 8.76 I’m having a bit of trouble rating this one. Past few days have been overcast so my Seasonal Affective is in full swing, I’m listening to music that is the complete opposite of what I recommended (Pagan Saints by Flesh & Bone{Chris White and Peter Kater not Stanley Howse} - Good luck listening to that online let alone finding it), and because of today’s schedule and time constraints I want to get this out of the way so I’m having this at 10Am which I’m feeling twinges of guilt at drinking so early (it would have been 8am but coffee first dammit.) and my cats seeking attention through mafia extortionist methods
(“That’s a nice figurine you have up here,” taps it with paw closer to edge, looks at me point blank “Be a real shame if something happened to it.”)
But all that being said this is a fun, relaxing, conversational icebreaker of an ale. Like a funny and fascinating conversation among friends peppered with IKRs and OMG Me too!’s. Where you feel relaxed to talk about anything and everything, and everyone equally oversharing -I mean come on I just admitted to SAD and morning drinking- but what you’re drinking still matters.
