New Year, New TF Ring!
I've had this variation of tf rings in my mind for a while now, and took advantage of having a day off yesterday to draw up this design doc for them. Got a lot wordier than I had planned, but I'm happy with the result.

Oh right so you already considered the creative implications of this, feeling silly now, my bad haha.
Does it work on non-anthros btw? Can you impersonate a historic person on a banknote by just using a ring while holding one? Imagine getting caught with "fake" money and having the banknote with old you template put away in evidence locker...

Hoo boy imagine the implications of being able to turn into other humans... this would be quite a nightmare with how anyone can just save photos of anyone else. Sure hope this magical technology only stays in the hands of weirdoes who wouldn't even consider turning into anything remotely human given the opportunity.
Kidnapping and crimes would be easier too, change your body before crime, then change your victim body if you want to do a kidnapping and boom there is no DNA trace.
You could even blackmail them by threatening to destroy their identity if they don't comply !
You might as well give them a very weak and/or humiliating form .

Hadn't considered that. I'd probably say it wouldn't count, as otherwise you'd just end up with a tattoo of your original self on the new form, and unable to use it for anything else beyond swapping those two forms, due to it not functioning if more than one creature is detected.
But of course, feel free to adjsut the rules/behavior to fit your own needs.

tbh, I'm not super familiar with it, or the quality standards they expect. Or if this is the kind of stuff they'd want.
I know what it is, of course, I'm skimmed it a few times (love that animal zipper one), but I don't know much about how stuff's added or what the rules or anything are.

ok, some big question. do it work then you hold a creature? if it work, two creature swap body or what? two people hold others hand and ring in the middle, what will happened? two people hold the same item together will they become one or just come out as twin? bound two tails, two people will be forced stay together or it wont work? it is a "de"tail. if the graph creature have a long mouth, it means that people will able to feel two mouth in the same time?
So I guess my only question is that holding the cd with a 3d model thats just any 3d model and going through the ring would then make it so that the form is then recreated as a 3d model and the other 3d model form would become what you are which you would transfer to a the paper that has your original form on it? Also with that in mind you could then use a duplicate of the 3d model after making the original 3d model and swap it with a full body picture and end up with an ultra detailed imag or would it still be the same level of each "step" as the original form of the item.
Quality/Detail of the item stays the same when passing through the ring.
If you're holding a cd with a 3d model on it (we'll say a low-poly raccoon anthro, for example) and walk through, you'd become a raccoon anthro with full details of being a real living creature, while the disk would now hold a low-poly human model.
Same applies to images. The detail of the image after passing through the ring will be the same detail as it was before passing through the ring.

If someone hold an item with datas and is viewed through the ring, you will see and beable to interact with them as the item's form.
hum.....
How to weaponize it :
1 : make the subject hold an item wich represent a vulnerable form (like a frail creature, a being with their vital organ unprotected, just a creature without the protective ability they have ect...)
2 : attack through the ring with whatever weapon/power you want.
The hard part is obviously making your target hold the item (and depending on whatever powerlevel you play with, if they willcounterattack before you strike )

"It can mimic the effect of non-living creature"
I have a question : How does it work if you look or interact through from the opposite side of the ring for a creature with a very unusual body?
Like if the item represent a very hot creature (like fire type pokemon, lava creature, ect...), will the heat only exist in a sort of parrallel dimension than the ring creature? Or the subject will experience the extreme heat despite not having any firelike properties ?
Or for beings with extremely malleable body like slimes? Does warping the malleable form distord the subject's body? or they only feel it as long they're nto crossing the ring?

I just though about something.
The whole "template is magically saved inside the object" is not magical at all, it is perfectly possible without our current technology....in fact we already did years ago (well obviously not to a level of storing absolutly everything describing a human body with 100% accuraccy ).
You can encrypt datas in an image without changing the image appearance, so it could be a 5y old drawing or a mona lisa it would be able to store the same datas.
Let's talk about a concrete exemple : video games.
You know the game spore released in 2008 where you can create a creature and make it evolve?
Well everything about the creature is saved inside a single image representing the creature, no additionnal file. It's a 2d image yet it contain the differents part the creature is made of (including thoses not visibles on the image ) and the game can recreate the 3d model, it keep track of the creature description , name , tags ect.....
The magical part would be how the ring read a being and interpret everythign about it with pin point accuracy, but yeah storing the template in the object is realistic.

Read through your TF Ring pages and got an idea for a Ring variant. A ring with the base template integrated into it. The template specifies which pieces of data are set (like bone structure, general musculature, stuff that would be consistent from specimen to specimen) and which areas of data are generated and how that generation can vary (like fur color and length, scale, and so on). When an entity passes through it generates accordingly and stores the original form as metadata on the generated for. If a physical representation of the original form is needed in some way it could be as a tattoo or something. Obviously going back through would restore original form. On a side note however, going through a different one will store the old metadata nested inside of the new metadata and too many layers of nested metadata can start introducing corruption. Remember to go back through rings in the reverse order you originally went through for a proper restoration of form.

Rather than creating a "variant" of the TF_Ring (that trades flexibility for consistency); an attachment can be added to the Ring to "restrict" its functionality to a specific kind of reality.
-> "The Attachment" is like an open_ring with the same internal diameter than the TF_Ring´s girth.
. Holding in a secure way another item like a piece of paper or a pendrive (with a proper image/description in it, that is complex & precise enough to generate the "base template"), in between the two points of the open_ring makes it count as if it was a creature+item.
. Throwing both together through the TF Ring (or placing both on the ground first, then lowering the TF_Ring around, then picking it up): Transfers the data into the open_ring [generating the "base template"] & erases the contents on the item.
. By pulling out the two points of the open_ring (so it can embrace the TF_Ring), the "base template" locks it into a "window" that shows a world with the specifics from the template [all creatures seen through it now look like a version of what is described].
. It is not possible to add more than one description into a "base template" (to have multiple species), but different characteristics for each sex & its "races" (minor variants/mutants that are still compatible with each others) can be defined through text as alternatives [but then there is no way to control what specific sex/variant each creature will be seen through (or become if crosses the TF_Ring); as it is "randomized" at the moment of creation of the "base template"].
