1982 was an interesting year for movies as it saw both the re-release of the classic Disney animated feature, Bambi, and the release of a new animated feature, The Secret of NIMH, created by a group of ex-Disney animators.
Inspired by this unique situation my long-time friend, John "Topfox" Cawley, commissioned this sketch for my birthday that year. It was drawn by Philo Barnhart, who was Key Character Assistant on NIMH (and whose father, Dale, was a veteran Disney background artist) and depicts Miz Brizz and the Young Prince -- the main characters from two of my favorite animated films -- in a highly unlikely meeting. TopFox started working for Don Bluth at around that same time and I became acquainted with Philo the following year during a visit to the Bluth Studios.
The original is framed and is one of my most cherished artistic possessions.
