Miles To Go Before I Sleep
"Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

Thanks so much! That poem is one of my favorites. I need to steal my Robert Frost book back from my mother's house the next time I visit.
As for the reflection on the snow, I used a very very light but lemony yellow to do the most "vivid" part of the reflection and then fanned it out with an equally subtle but more earthy yellow to make it look like it was fading.

Robert Frost is one of my favorite poets, and this poem has always been a big inspiration to me, and it sort of fits my mood right now. The light is there to offer some warmth to her, so I'm glad you caught it. It's supposed to be kind of open ended as to whether or not she wants to accept it or just go prodding her own way through the night. Thanks!
Aaw... seeing your art in my inbox always makes my day, but not sure how to feel if it's one full of sads... here's to feeling better, whatever happened.
In any case another friggin' gorgeous piece. Looks like Wields is about to go on a looong cold journey and is saying her farewells to home... I just love the snow and cool colors here, just gives that nice clear message that everyone's feeling: winter is a-comin'!

I'm glad my art makes you happy! Everything's okay, just needed to vent a bit.
It's a picture that's much like the poem. About passing through a bit of darkness, wanting to dwell on that lonely and dark feeling but knowing that you have to move on. I put the light in there to show a bit of warmth that she could reach out for if she chooses or she could just continue on her way. It's kind of open ended there.
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment.

That atmosphere you've created here is so gorgeous. I love how the colors you've used to shade Wielder really make her fit into the picture flawlessly. I love the house you drew, and the gnarly trees! I love how you drew Wielder's fur blowing in the wind, and her fluffiness makes her look like she's got her winter coat. I just love this picture so much!
I hope whatever is upsetting you can be solved soon, and I wish you all the best. Stay strong, though I know you will. <3

Thanks so much, Flann. I was really worried about the use of blue because, even though I wanted it to convey a sad and lonely emotion, I wanted it to look pretty real too. But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Floofy Wielder is floofy, and I did want to make her look like she's ready for winter.
Thanks so much for being so kind. I appreciate it so much.

what, are you psychic or something? or do you just know me that well, do you think?
AND OMFG, last time I ever show up to History of English with a buzz... People were talking, and I swear, I was smackin' my lips and rollin' my eyes so hard at the shit that was falling out of there mouths I'm surprised my face didn't fall the fuck off.
Actually, I take that back. I'm getting shitfaced on the day of our next test.
...not that any of this is at all relevant to the picture... except Robert Frost wrote in English... which is important in the history of the language for some reason...

Thanks so much, hun. I appreciate it deeply. And, yes, Robert Frost is amazing. I need to steal my collection of his poems from my mother's house the next time I visit. While I COULD just look up his poetry on teh interwebz, I still like having that hard and tangible copy in my hands. It means more to me that way because I'm fucking old fashioned as hell.
Thanks, girl. I was actually surprised it came out as well as it did with all that overwhelming blue...and with a cabin. Architecture of any kind is not my forte. But I tries, I tries. And thanks more than anything for the support. It goes both ways, I assure you *smiles*.
Everybody needs time to vent. Bottling up emotions doesn't do any good. I hope you feel better soon.
Aside from being a future English teacher, I especially love this poem because my aunt and uncle have a store called The Woods which makes great use of this poem on merchandise. My favorite coffee mug, for example.
As for the art itself, I'm absolutely astounded!
The scenery fits the poem so well. Not quite gloomy, but not exactly welcoming either. "Lovely, dark and deep" really does capture it.
The cabin in the near background combined with Wielder in the foreground really brings home the final lines of the poem.
I wonder if this is a cabin she's reluctantly passing by, or perhaps reluctantly leaving?
In any case, bravo, Wielder! This is a fantastic work of art.

Yeah, I tend to be the kind who DOES bottle up everything other than pure rage. Oh, my character, she fits me well. Thank you for the concern. I appreciate it very much.
Oooooo, your Uncle's store captivates me already. I love that poem, and I love woods and forests in general. Awesome!
Shadows to hide in aren't exactly a bad thing. A forest at night is actually quite comforting to me, and I felt that Frost must have derived a similar conclusion when he wrote the poem. The loneliness but warmth the cabin symbolizes is a little hopeful...knowing that someone else has found an odd sort of comfort and understanding from the same loneliness. As emotional as this piece was to work on, it was actually quite fun as well.
As for what she's doing, she's just passing through. She might lie in the warmth of the cabin's light, but she's more than likely to continue on her own path through the snow.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

All I can think of is Wielder clearing her throat and telling Kenobi to suck it, right to his face.
That being said, glad to voice support. Everybody could use a little boost now and then.
And yes, I live my uncle's store. I always end up spending a decent chunk there, but it feels good to support an mom and pop store still in business.
Again, yay for Frost!

What an absolutely beautiful character. I love the body movement, seemingly sad and wanting to be somewhere safe and warm is depicted so well.
Those snowflakes are so wonderful, the entire picture plays with my emotions and makes me feel as though I could be there. Your work is stunning.
