It takes time for a phoenix to open to someone. For their master, it takes only a moment of inspiration, and they will always revere and honor them, and stand by them as a servant and eternal ally. But friends are much harder to acquire. The long life of a phoenix keeps them at arms' length from most, unwilling to let the passage of time steal people away from them, and so they choose to forgo most relationships outside of their primary, regardless of the space in their hearts to love and care for more. For Azen, a friendship that could make him smile so broadly and welcome the touch and companionship of another felt unthinkable. But for one who has always been drawn to the light and the good things of the world, there was little doubt he'd fall head over heels for the hawk who had given him such joy and trust. In every moment he shared with the one he knew as Blitz, he forgot his troubles, found himself smiling, and gave in to the desire to hold and be held. Just a tender moment of warmth, but one he would value and treasure for the rest of his life, just as he would treasure his new friend equally as long. It takes time for a phoenix to open to someone... but when they do, their love pours without limit. And for Blitz, Azen could never consider being closed for him again.
